Collymore Posted 7 January 2007 Posted 7 January 2007 Two consecutive games we have conceded goals trying to play the offside trap. Why do we do it? It's as if Rob Kelly doesn't tell them to do it, they have a rush of blood and think they're better than they are! The striker gets the benefit of the doubt, as shown below against Fulham.
Cobbo Posted 7 January 2007 Posted 7 January 2007 That's the best diagonal defensive line I've seen in my life.
Joe. Posted 7 January 2007 Posted 7 January 2007 We alwsy defend too high up and we are usually punished for it. You'd have thought by now that they would have learned. Obviously not...
JoeyB Posted 7 January 2007 Posted 7 January 2007 paddy mc is always appealing for offsides when there clearly onside, he should just chase after the, and complain afterwards if there going to push up they all have to push up

That's the whole point of an offside trap, we're just not good enough at doing it.

Well if we defended too deep it invites pressure. We have to defend high up to compress the play, constrict the area in which the opposition can play. But playing a high line and the offside trap are two entirely different things. To play an effective offside trap it has to be worked on a lot and the back 4 can rarely change...Ours has changed on a regular basis so should never be considered as an option.

I was going to make the point of having to have consistency in selection at the back. Also yesterday was not a great game to play the offside trap because it has not worked alot this season and when we face Prem quality we are only making it harder for ourselves.

Simi Posted 7 January 2007 Posted 7 January 2007 Play to the whistle. Exactl, Kisnorbo lost a yard on McBride appealing for offside yesterday.
