Matt Posted 12 January 2005 Posted 12 January 2005 CITY REVEAL AGENTS' FEES COST £400,000 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/disp...tentPK=11634715 BY BILL ANDERSON 10:17 - 12 January 2005 Leicester City are set to be named as one of the top Championship clubs in terms of payments to agents. Even though they spent only £1million on players, the fees to agents amounted to £400,000 over the last six months to December. All clubs are having their agents' fees made public after the breakthrough move by the Premiership, and tomorrow it is the turn of the Football League to reveal their amounts. It is expected that all three relegated clubs - City, Wolves and Leeds - will figure prominently and City chief executive Tim Davies says the club are committed to reducing this major factor in their finances. "Because of relegation last season, we had to substantially rebuild the squad and this led us to bring in 11 new players," he said. "As a result of using agents, these fees reached this amount (£400,000) but in the next six months we expect that figure to fall." The £1m spent on players was split evenly between David Connolly and Gareth Williams, with the £400,000 figure being reached through agents' fees on all the other newcomers to the Walkers Stadium during that period. But it pales by comparison to the £1.6m that Leeds paid out to agents in the second half of last year. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ian Walker played his first game for over four months when he started for the reserves in their 0-0 draw against Coventry City at Nuneaton last night. He played 70 minutes of the match as the next step on the road to full fitness, having been on the bench for Saturday's FA Cup tie with Blackpool last Saturday. With Stuart Taylor now available after Arsenal refused to allow the on-loan player to become cup-tied, Walker's return may not be considered too urgent for Saturday's trip to Preston but he might be in line for a start in the replay at Blackpool next Tuesday. City boss Craig Levein said: "Ian is clearly the best goalkeeper in the division and the club have not had the use of his services very much. This has obviously had an effect and the sooner we have him back the better."
Matt Posted 12 January 2005 Author Posted 12 January 2005 Yeah but how did they get away with it, We got slated like hell and we didn't spend anything when we were in trouble(We're still in trouble but we're resonably stable)

Guest Posted 13 January 2005 Posted 13 January 2005 Why do players actually need agents? They used to get along fine without them, and it just goes to show how thick players are, and up themselves they can be to think they need to pay somebody to run their lives for them.
