Oli Posted 24 January 2005 Posted 24 January 2005 france, and 2 against croatiahe isnt awesome, mediocre at the best ronaldo made a mug of him at euro 2004 i'm afraid 58552 Made a mug of him? C.Ronaldo didnt make a mug of him. 2 goals against France as well? IMO both were James fault. The freekick he wasn't in the right position. The second one James was a fool as usual and brought down their player. Sometimes I do question what your talking about
Nathan_Ellington_WAFC Posted 24 January 2005 Posted 24 January 2005 i said 2 AGAINST CROATIA sometimes i do wonder what you're talking about.
TrickyTrev Posted 24 January 2005 Posted 24 January 2005 Ashley Cole was definately not repsonsible for either of the goals against France. One was a free kick where heskey committed a stupid foul on the edge opf his own area and the other was penalty. The penalty was conceeded because of Gerrard and James. Croatia only scored two goals against us, which you cliam were both his fault. One was froma corner where Cole always defends a post. I don't see hwo you can blame this on him. I can't remeber the other goal to be honest with you but consdiering you mad eup him being responsible for the other 2 goals I wouldn't be suprised if you wer about the third. Ashley Cole was Man Of The Match against Portugal and Figo one nothing against him and was eventually substituted. Ronadlo then played against him and Cole played even better. Fair enough you don't think he is a great defender, which if you ask me is a stupid media band wagon based on bollocks, but your arguement is based on false assertions and bullshit.

I do think he is a good player but sometimes at the back he isnt world class. Going forward he is excellent though.
Nathan_Ellington_WAFC Posted 24 January 2005 Posted 24 January 2005 why did heskey commit that foul? oh, because of coles dyer header which he gave to france right outside our box in which heskey had no other choice to foul him watch the croatia match again please, you'll soon find that i'm right and, watch the portugal match again as cole certainly didnt have ronaldo in his back pocket idiots
TrickyTrev Posted 24 January 2005 Posted 24 January 2005 That's bolllocks, I can remeber Heskey giving the ball away for the free kick and it was not a needed foul at all. How could the corner be his fault? He does not mark a player so surely it was hte fault of whoever it was who was supossed to be marking. I can remeber the Portugal game as well. Ashley Cole was definately voted Englands Man of The Match and it was Ronaldo's quietest game of the tournament. It's quite clearly a player you don't like who you have decided to put down, in spite fo the truth.

He had boundless energy and matched C. Ronaldo stride for stride. He was (unusually) the rock in the defence that night so I can't really see what the devil you're on about. I don't think 1 minute that Bridge will be any better, but I do think SGE should try the Bridge/Cole combination as the 1 time I saw that constellation they did very well.
Sparky Posted 24 January 2005 Posted 24 January 2005 ronaldo didnt get a bloody kick , cole marked him out the game how can u say that he didnt watch the video tape
Nathan_Ellington_WAFC Posted 24 January 2005 Posted 24 January 2005 hhhm, i think it's you lot who need to watch the tapes - i'm not wrong here or are you just saying all this because you are angry and jealous at me because my team (wigan athletic) will be playing in the premier division next season? it's ok i understand
Oli Posted 24 January 2005 Posted 24 January 2005 hhhm, i think it's you lot who need to watch the tapes - i'm not wrong hereor are you just saying all this because you are angry and jealous at me because my team (wigan athletic) will be playing in the premier division next season? it's ok i understand 58605 Why do you resort to that all the time. Because you are wrong you have to change subject. Talking out of you arse as usual Wellington. It will be some nice easy points for the rest of the premier league teams.

This thread has absolutely nothing to do with it! Now if Cole's performance vs Portugal wasn't worthy of the description 'top class', tell me what you think is a great performance by a full back. Oh and while you're at it, think about it... you have several people on here (including a Dane, who couldn't care less who'd won in that quarter final) who say that Cole was outstanding and Ronaldo was kept quiet. I remember watching the game on Danish and Norwegian TV and every pundit recognised the great performance by Cole. So no, of course YOU'RE not wrong...
Chandler Posted 25 January 2005 Posted 25 January 2005 To be considered a 'brilliant' footballer you must possess to the highest degree, the ball skills which are UNIQUE to our sport. Pace, aggression, natural athleticism etc are common to most sports. It was their skills rather than their athleticism which marked Pele and Maradona out as the best of their generations. They did things with the ball that other players simply could not do. When I hear players like Ashley Cole being touted as among the best in the world I reach for my revolver. His ball skills (er dribbling, shooting, passing, improvisation etc) are an embarrassment at Prem level let alone world level.

You can't seriously name many left backs that are superior to Cole, and as I pointed out earlier it might well be because there aren't any 'brilliant' left backs or indeed fullbacks around...
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 25 January 2005 Posted 25 January 2005 Goalkeeper- Paul Robinson, most of you probably wont agree, but the bloke is top class, easily englands best keeper, massively underrated if man u or arsenal had signed him, they wouldnt be in the keeper crisis's there in now. Right Back-Carles Puyol, I'm a bit of a barca fan and although he has a dodgy haircut he seems to make mincemeat of most strikers. Left Back- Gabriel Heinze, This is a bit of a dodgy choice and there probably are better left backs than him, but i think he has bags of potential and has really stood out in the man utd team this season. Centre Back-Lucio, Always looks really calm on the ball. Centre Back-Rio Ferdinand, Easily the best defender in the world, he is worth 10 points a season to man utd on his own, has everything you need in a defender. Right Midfield-David Beckham, Not so much for now but for when he was at man utd, he added an extra dimension to them with his crossing, van nistelrooy hasnt looked as dangerous without beckhams crosses to feed off. Left Midfield- Rafael Van Der Vaart, Has bags of skill, a lethal shot and still really young, a future superstar. Centre Midfield-Steven Gerrard, Look at the premiership table, imagine liverpool five places lower, thats where they would be without him. Centre Midfield-Patrick Vieira, Arsenals best player by a mile, defends, attacks and worth more to them than thierry henry. Forward- Arjen Robben, He's won chelsea the title, nuff said ForwardRonaldinho, As Above only for barcelona instead of chelsea. Well thats my opinion some of them are a bit dodgy but nevermind.
