Ric Flair Posted 2 February 2005 Posted 2 February 2005 Sorry folks, but I can't join in the love fest for Hughes. If he can't hack it in a league with the likes of Cally Pissle in it I can't see how you lot can cream yourselves over his prospects in the Championship. The mighty Huns have dumped this chancer on us to recoup a few pennies on the Ferguson buy-back. £4.5m for that bit of tat! MON must be laughing up his cuff. He's got himself a real player on loan for £0.5m. Long enough to give him the title and an easier passage into the Champions League. And the sensitive, deferential, mild mannered citizens of Glasgow will keep young Craig on the straight and narrow... 61974[/snapback] A fair point there Chandler but a question that I would ask is - How can a team like Leicester get in to the premiership and stay there? You say that players like Hughes can't be that good because they struggled to make the grade at Rangers, but I personally believe that the only way we will succeed is by signing young, hungry players that are talented. Couple this together with some experienced players and some homegrown players and we have a chance. It's difficult to produce quality players from academies and it's pot luck at times in my opinion as to when you get these 'wonderkids' come through. I think it is perfect timing for Stearman, Dawson and Wesolowski to be blooded in to the first team squad. Craig is building things here and these three players have the potential to be premiership footballers in my opinion and give us a chance to go down the road we need to success. O'Neill had Heskey coming through, he also signed a player by the name of Muzzy Izzet who couldn't even get in for Chelsea reserves. Izzet could fit in as an example of your thoughts on us signing Hughes, where he was deemed not good enough at a relatively big club. The same could be said about Neil Lennon who had been blown out at Man City in his youth, similar with Savage who was binned at United. Just because a player doesn't make it at a top club doesn't mean they can't go on to be quality footballers and the same applies to Stephen Hughes. He might turn out to be a waste of time, but he's played well over 50 games for Rangers and their fans are sad to see him go. At 22 he has a point to prove and often this is a great catalyst for success if a player is driven by determination to succeed at the top. We aren't in a position to sign proven players and I personally believe the best way to get us back in to the premiership is to sign young players who have the potential to stay in our team for more than just a season. Build some continuity throughout our team so that the fans can also build a rapport up with the players. All similar aspects to the way O'Neill did things at Leicester, now copying O'Neill might not bring success but I believe it's definately a sensible option. I would be keen to hear your views on how you would go about getting us in to the premiership and staying there. We have little money, but luckily you can get young players from top clubs that aren't getting a sniff who can become good players for a pittance. I like the look of Hughes, i've watched him a few times when he was up naaaaaaaaarf. He certainly won't weaken our side and if he can put us one step further on the road to da premiership it will be money well spent, innit.

I bet MON is really pissing himself what with the quality of players Celtic are able to attract these days. Rangers and Celtic have filled their sides with gash from all around Europe and beyond. Perhaps if they'd stuck with what is under their doorstep they might have had the odd progression in the Champions League.
