New Signing - Stephen Hughes

I don't want to sound like I am jumping on the bandwagon here saying this player will be awesome for us. But a year or so ago I saw this lad play and thought he was amazing. Infact i've kept a close eye on him for a while when I had access to scottish football.

I am over the moon we've signed this lad, I really am. Definately the same sort of player as Williams but from what i've seen of him he get's stuck in.

****ing hell, is there a small chance of the play-offs? Get the **** in.

I think we could see him partnered with Williams. Although Williams is creative he can sit in the midfield. I think that Hughes is a tenacious player who is more box to box from what I have seen. It is just that he has played with Rae this season. If he is first choice for Rangers (which he was most of the time barring injuries) I think he will be for us. Sounds like a bargain. Thank god for B Ferguson because we wouldn't have been able to sign him without him moving I don't think.

This season's CM - Williams and Gudjohnsson...

Next season's CM - Hughes and Kisnorbo ???

Gudjonsson is the worst passer of a ball at the club. He can tackle and is busy, but he is a liability, he gives the ball away. His first touch is as hard as a shot!

That is Kisarnobo, Willaims, hughes, Joey, and let not forget Dawson in midfield next season. They are all good players. God knows how Craig Levein is going to keep them all happy.

I think Kisarnobo will be a back up player.

Take a deep breath. Stat attack.  ;)

With this new signing our average age is now: 26.8 (26/27)

Of the players over 30 we have only Tiatto that is contracted for next season.

We've got 17 players under 30 and 10 players under 25 (26 players in total).

Keep in mind these stats also include players like Wilcox and Blake who probably won't play for us again and the future certainly looks bright..

(Ok, this post might just have interested Petrescu ;))

Staaaaaaaaaaaaatto ;)

The future is certainly looking a lot brighter, might not have to buy a totally new squad in the summer :o :o

That is truely awful. 2 full backs at centre half and the other one is completely unproven. And then you've picked two midfielders we've never seen play yet.

A positive step and excellent signing in my eyes.  The fact he didn't figure at Rangers doesn't mean Jack Diddly as Rangers have a policy of only playing crap over paid overseas players.  And Barry Ferguson.

Very highly rated by rainer Bonhoff the Scotland under 21 coach and at the time it was suprising to see Berti Vogts and Tommy Burns didn't rate him good enough for the full team.  We now know that probably means he is a star as those 2 couldn't pick a winner in a 1 horse race  <_<  .

I agree looks like a good bit of business, seen him a few times and looks a good player and it can only be good for you and his game as he was never going to improve sitting on the bench at Ibrox. The few "Bears" Ive spoken to today are mightily pissed off, so that says they must rate him.

Stearman is amazing by the way.

Hughes sounds like a good signing from what I've heard.

I think 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 is more likely than 3-5-2 with the players we've got at the moment (although I still think Levein will stick with 4-4-2 if he can...

Levein surprised to sign Hughes

Leicester boss Craig Levein admitted he was as surprised as anyone to sign Rangers midfielder Stephen Hughes.

Levein said: "I didn't think it was possible to get Stephen so I hadn't even tried until a chance conversation with an agent about another player.

"It was something which happened at the last minute but we've managed to get one of the most talented players in Scotland for an absolute steal."

The 22-year-old has joined City on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

My Uncle was speaking to a Rangers Fan earlier , and he told my Uncle Hughes will be a class act for us,especially in the middle with Williams :D

There is one centre half in there and he is a 17 year old kid

We will sign some centre halves I imagine ;)

I'm not going o get exicted about players I have barely seen play. He certainly sounds promising but in the words of Public Enemy don't believe the hype. I a glad we have signed a centre back and midfieler because we need a good youngish defender and Joey is shite, although improving recently.

Sorry folks, but I can't join in the love fest for Hughes. If he can't hack it in a league with the likes of Cally Pissle in it I can't see how you lot can cream yourselves over his prospects in the Championship.

The mighty Huns have dumped this chancer on us to recoup a few pennies on the Ferguson buy-back. £4.5m for that bit of tat! MON must be laughing up his cuff. He's got himself a real player on loan for £0.5m. Long enough to give him the title and an easier passage into the Champions League.

And the sensitive, deferential, mild mannered citizens of Glasgow will keep young Craig on the straight and narrow...

I agree we can't over hype the player. To be fair though if Hughes was at any club in the SP excluding the big two, he would be a regular!

I think we should all just chill out, eat a pie and see how good this kid really is!

It's nice that I can actually call a new signing a kid as well lol

I'll agree with you to an extent, but I think you should let the lad kick a football for us first before forming a judgement. Like you, I don't think we should be claiming that we have the next Muzzy Izzet, but at the same time we shouldn't write him off.

I think the kid will also need a bit of time to adjust to the English game, plus, having called Glasgow his home since age 16 it must be hard for the lad to come down here...all of this means he will need our support.

Lets give him a good Leicester welcome. After all he is now one of us...
