Chairman of the Bored Posted 28 May 2007 Posted 28 May 2007 So now we know who we will be playing next season, who are your favourites? I've got a sneaky feeling Sheff Weds will be in the mix this time. They came on strong under Brian Laws at the end of this one. Southampton will also get better. My top six at the moment (not in any order just yet) are: Sheff Weds Southampton Wolves Crystal Palace Stoke and gasp Leicester Going to be a tough division to get out of again but not as hard as this year as I don't think Charlton, Watford or Sheff Utd will challenge.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 May 2007 Posted 28 May 2007 Wolves WBA Charlton Watford Southampton Sheffield United

Tommeh Posted 28 May 2007 Posted 28 May 2007 I think it'll be wolves next season as the team who is superior if you like to everyone else. with their recent takeover meanng they have money and an already very talented young squad with Keogh, Kightley, Olifanjana, Bothroyd and a great manager in Mick McCarthy I can also see Charlton up there with Southampton so they would be my top 3. After that I think it's very tricky, I'd expect WBA to be up there again although I'd also expect them to loose Koumas, Curtis Davies and Kamara in the summer so they may not be as strong. Then I think theres about 8 teams with realistic chances of the play-offs but they are at the same time very hard to predict. Teams like: Sheffield Wednesday Stoke Plymouth Leicester Sheffield United Palace Preston Coventry
Mort Posted 29 May 2007 Posted 29 May 2007 Wolves and Charlton probably make up the top two favourites for promotion. Beyond those two i think you have a couple of teams for whom a top six finish is likley - Sheff Wednesday, Southampton (if their take-over goes through then the cash they'll have to hand will put them on a par with Wolves and Charlton), Preston and WestBrom (if they keep their squad together - but i think they will struggle to do so as alot of their players wont want another season in the championship and will attract attention from the prem)... Finally there are the teams who might challenge for the top six and actually make it, and I'd throw Leicester into that mix along with Coventry, Sheff Utd and perhaps Stoke and Palace... that said its hard to say with the last trench of teams as so much depends on how they start the season and other factors that cant really be predicted, put it this way we have the potential with the right aditions to the squad and a solid pre-season's preperation to challenge at the top of the table... then again the same could be said of many teams in this division.
Brainy Posted 29 May 2007 Posted 29 May 2007 Sheffield WednesdayStoke Plymouth Leicester Sheffield United Palace Preston Coventry Well if thats the case, next year's gonna' be exciting
Ultra Posted 29 May 2007 Posted 29 May 2007 Palace will have to sell players as they're losing their parachute payments. Unless they dump that useless tw@t of a manager they're not likely to be in the promotion battle.
Simon Posted 29 May 2007 Posted 29 May 2007 Can't see why so many people are discounting Watford after what Ade Boothroyd's done there. It's really difficult to say what will happen until squads for the new season until squads have been decided. To be honest I can't see past: Wolves Southampton Charlton for the top 2 places. They still have (especially if Southampton's takeover goes through) more money than we do to spend, even with MM's investment, and infinitely better squads to start with. The following I see up there or thereabouts: Watford Sheff Utd WBA Then the challengers to try and get in that top 6: Leicester Preston Stoke Sheff Weds Coventry (esp if the extra investment comes in) No doubt about it, its gonna be a tough league.
Daggers Posted 29 May 2007 Posted 29 May 2007 I think there's a difference between who is going to be in the mix if we started playing tomorrow - and who will be in the mix come season kick-off. The summer activity is going to go a long way to forming the early starters and you have to fancy the three teams dropping down for their money. WBA are going to suffer - I can see them being plundered for talent. If the offers are right they could lose their entire midfield and half their forward line. Southampton and Wolves should be able to become realistic challengers as long as they invest the money at their disposal wisely. It's going to be a tough one.
Joe. Posted 29 May 2007 Posted 29 May 2007 Definitely not us for me. <_< However much I wish it to happen, I just know it's not. So for me: 1. Charlton 2. WBA 3. Southampton 4. Wolves 5. Sheff. Utd 6. Stoke
