Gené and Tonic Posted 23 June 2007 Posted 23 June 2007 Since there's a few scattered around we may as well keep all Formula 1 posts in here...there are quite a few here who watch the sport. Anyway, the 'crisis' at Ferrari seems to be deepening... Ferrari's Stepney faces criminal enquiry By Jonathan Noble and Biranit Goren Thursday, June 21st 2007, 17:17 GMT The Modena district attorney in Italy has opened criminal investigation against Ferrari stalwart Nigel Stepney, after the Maranello outfit filed a formal complaint earlier this week. The team would not divulge the nature of their complaint or what Stepney is accused of, but a team spokesman has confirmed to autosport.com that the Briton is at the centre of investigation. "Ferrari have taken action against Nigel Stepney, and there is now an investigation," the spokesman said, adding that Stepney is still an employee of Ferrari. Ferrari refused to offer any additional information, saying they will refrain from making any comment on the matter while the investigation is ongoing. Stepney himself is currently on holiday, and all attempts to reach him for comment over the last few days have failed. Autosport.com understands the Modena district attorney has launched a criminal investigation after receiving Ferrari's complaint with accompanying documents. A public defence lawyer has been appointed to represent Stepney in the investigation in his absence. Just a few months ago, two former Ferrari employees were found guilty of taking team secrets to Toyota. Stepney is responsible for team performance development at Ferrari, having been the Scuderia's race and test technical manager until earlier this year. The Briton, who joined Ferrari a decade ago from Benetton, was moved to his new position after claiming he was unhappy at the technical department following Ross Brawn's departure. Stepney had hoped to be able to take a sabbatical this year, but that request was declined by the team who instead gave him a new factory-based role. Speaking to Autosport magazine earlier this year, he said: "I am looking at spending a year away from Ferrari. "I'm not currently happy with the situation within the team - I really want to move forward with my career and that's something that's not happening right now. "Ideally, I'd like to move into a new environment here at Ferrari - but if an opportunity arose with another team, I would definitely consider it." Stepney has been widely linked with a possible move to Honda.
Brainy Posted 23 June 2007 Posted 23 June 2007 Just found this A video with no mention of Lewis Hamilton
Gené and Tonic Posted 23 June 2007 Author Posted 23 June 2007 And I found this....great helmet cam btw
Brainy Posted 23 June 2007 Posted 23 June 2007 And I found this.. Senna's crash Imola 1994. On board with Senna for most of the video, but when they come over the start/finish line, it switches to the car behind, so Senna is the car slightly ahead. Eventually you'll see Senna going off track to the right of the screen. And the picture quality does eventually improve Strange how they always use that song when remembering some thing/one
Gené and Tonic Posted 23 June 2007 Author Posted 23 June 2007 There are so many vids of his crash on youtube. Kubica's was a lot worse imo. One of the reasons he survived is due to Senna's crash and the reaction after it.

Only two people have died in F1 since Senna's Crash & thats quite some tribute to the safety of the sport now. This is by far the worst I've seen. Quite Graphic in slow motion. Ouch.
Gené and Tonic Posted 24 June 2007 Author Posted 24 June 2007 Those two were marshalls weren't they? At Monza and Melborne I think..

Neither were drivers though were they? I think Pryce's and Villeneuve's accidents were worse than the Formula 3000 one though.
Gené and Tonic Posted 24 June 2007 Author Posted 24 June 2007 My God just watched that video, the last slow motion part is horrific
Floating Fox Posted 24 June 2007 Posted 24 June 2007 Those two were marshalls weren't they? At Monza and Melborne I think.. Correct. The F3000 Crash itself is quite bad but the slow motion of the bloke getting crushed like a bug is horrific. How did Berger Survive this. It was before Senna's Crash & at the same corner! Great Work by the marshall's there
Gené and Tonic Posted 24 June 2007 Author Posted 24 June 2007 F1 was so much better in terms of racing back then, much harder to drive the cars as well, a rookie couldn't come in and drive fast straight away, unlike today. That Berger crash highlighted the need for Tamburello to be altered. I find it strange how cars can crash on a corner like that but the surface must have been very bumpy.
Gené and Tonic Posted 24 June 2007 Author Posted 24 June 2007 Still, it could happen on any fast corner really, there must have been something about the surface of Tamburello that made it hazardous. One of the theories of Sennas accident was that the car bottomed out causing him to lose control. It's great to see how safe the cars are now, just wish they would scrap all these stupid rules like engines that have to last for 2 grand prix weekends and race fuel for quali. F1 is a sprint not an endurance.
isaidno Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 I know this is not F1 but Alex Zanardi's Champ car crash was sickening. In the slow motion pictures you can see his legs fly through the air . I can't believe he survived. He now races using hand operated controls and is now a race winner in the world touring car series.

Gené and Tonic Posted 25 June 2007 Author Posted 25 June 2007 i'm eating lunch..how delightful. It's great to see him still racing.
The Stig Posted 26 June 2007 Posted 26 June 2007 Those two were marshalls weren't they? At Monza and Melborne I think.. I'm a marshall Good idea for a F1 thread!
McFox Posted 27 June 2007 Posted 27 June 2007 Hello! New here, still getting the hang of it- And an F1 thread seemed like a warm and comfortable place to start!! I'm going to Silverstone again next week- last year was our first trip to the F1 there- it was fantastic, the whole weekend was great fun and i challenge anyone who says "But i'd rather sit at home and watch it on the telly" to actually go to an F1 race- the feeling of raw power is fantastic!!! Anyway- anyone know of anywhere we can pitch our tents?? Last year we were in the Sawmills campsite as my mate works for CyrstalSport and they "owned" that site for the weekend- but then don't seem to be doing it this year, and we haven't booked anything- i hope there are "first come, first servce" campsites which we'll get into if we are early enough. Any help greatly appreciated!

Gené and Tonic Posted 27 June 2007 Author Posted 27 June 2007 Sadly I can't really help with this one, never been to a race at Silverstone, only testing. But I did a quick google and this place seems ok: http://www.silverstone-camping.co.uk/ First come first serve, no booking. Says best to get there by 5th July so maybe not ideal but you could make a holiday out of it

Personnally i'll be cheering on David Coutlard (until he has to retire on the 15th lap!)
isaidno Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 Polish Formula One driver Robert Kubica has passed a medical and will race in Sunday's French Grand Prix, his BMW Sauber team said on Thursday. "I'm 100 percent fit," said the 22-year-old driver, who missed the last US Grand Prix after an horrific crash in Canada on June 10. "I'm looking forward to this race and happy that I missed only Indianapolis." Kubica was replaced at Indianapolis by 19-year-old German Sebastian Vettel, who scored a point on his debut but now reverts to his former role of test and reserve driver.
McFox Posted 28 June 2007 Posted 28 June 2007 That crash in Canada as pretty bad- 10 years ago and a similar crash would have left Kubica dead. Those cars must be pretty damn tough these days The other drivers all seemed a bit miffed that all that seperated 2 pieces of track where Kubica first hit the wall, was a 2 foot high bit of concrete.
