MC Prussian Posted 21 February 2005 Posted 21 February 2005 Five of today's Premiership contenders in the Championship must plan a big part of the remaining season without one or several key players. PRESTON has just lost No.2 goalkeeper Gavin Ward (formerly with Notts County)due to a massive blow to the head which he suffered against Ipswich Town. He is out for at least two weeks. The North End's first choice keeper, Andy Lonergan, is also out for an even longer period of time. He faces an estimated 6 months aside recovering from a crucial ligament damage. WEST HAM will have to renounce on the services of Sergei Rebrov, Hayden Mullins and Mark Noble who had all to be replaced following West Ham's 5-0 win against Brighton at Upton Park. Rebrov is said to have strained his calf. SUNDERLAND have received bad news from striker Kevin Kyle. The 23-year-old still suffers from a hip injury that has inflammed again very recently thus making it impossible for the Black Cat to compete in training for another two weeks. IPSWICH are still without the Championship's top scorer, Finnish striker Shefki Kuqi. He remains in treatment for another month's time. "He's got a puncture wound and there will be muscle damage after surgery" said Joe Royle. In addition, 31-year-old defender Drissa Diallo will have to see a specialist for his harmstring complaint. Diallo, who has made 23 league appearances this season, described the injury as "frustrating". READING midfielder Steve Sidwell is still sidelined with a swollen dead leg but is expected to play against Leeds United. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bad news for them. Good omen for us in the next weeks? Especially with another two consecutive AWAY games approaching...??? Upcoming 7 league games: 2 at home 5 away
shen Posted 21 February 2005 Posted 21 February 2005 We're 11 points off a play-off place with 15 games to go. If we assume we win our game in hand (compared to West Ham, holding 6th place) we would be 8 points off with 14 games to go. That's a very tall order, and put in realistic terms we have to show promotion form from now on to the end, maybe being able to afford 1 or 2 poor results. I would think we need about 29-30 points out of 14 games to get into the play-offs... I won't get my hopes up just yet
