Geo V Posted 10 September 2007 Posted 10 September 2007 But it does. At least it is perfectly possible. MM has gone through so many managers of various styles and temperaments in such a short time that it is perfectly clear he is exactly the sort who would find fault and sack someone short term rather than work to solve the problems. He's even said he'd change 20 managers if necessary. So why should anyone think of him any differently? Truth is he should examine himself. There are many qualities MM seems short of such as loyalty, integrity and the ability to assess people. But worst of all, to use an American phrase, he has no code. The bigger question is do you want to win at the expense of integrity? I think you`ll answer no but I`ll say yes. I want a winner at the club who can take us places and then leave. I simply cant see him sticking around for too long once promoted as he would have to back us in the transfer market with money and I dont think he`ll do a Niall Quinn. He`ll probably give us a few mill to spend like Davies has got at Derby and we can all see how badly they have started. Back to his record in sacking managers, many of them have been interim bosses on short term deals. His record is open to interpretation and at the moment you have people who want to see it all as negative, especially those who didn't want him in the first place and then there are people like me who understand that this is the fickle world of football and just like players show no loyalty, just like some managers leave and just like other bosses manage the club so badly that puts us in trouble, this is simply just a bloke who has some money and wants to make some cash with it. Its our time to not worry too much about integrity and honour and even respect, this is about getting up however and from there, we`ll see what happens under someone else.

Sorry, this is Leicester we're talking about, not Derby. They didn't care how they went up last season, but they're paying a heavy price now. I would hope we could manage to attract a manager who will avoid the same fate as them.
Geo V Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 You are quite right - I do think things like integrity are important. In life, things are different. Honesty, intergrity and the rest are at the forefront in what I do but football is and always will be different. Whether its playings cheating by diving or even claiming corners when they know the ball hit them or whether its greedy players earning thousands of pounds that we ultimately pay for and then sit back and relax, we must admit that this business is not the norm. This is a totally unique business and integrity needn't be at the forefront of our minds at this level. I wouldn't want us to stoop so low as do a string of underhanded dodgies to succeed but if sacking a manager or three rocks the applecart so much that the Mary whitehouse supporters start coming out raising there handbags in disgust, then so be it. Its real life!

Buying players from Celtic, Man Utd and West Ham, getting promoted and adding a couple of £3m transfers. I would hate us to do that. I think we are better of with an owner of integrity who can slowly build a side of superstars after our magnificent scouting squad unearthed the new Maradona from Argentina, the new Ronaldinho from Brazil and of course, the new Ronaldo from Portugal. Unfortunately, this isnt fantasy football so the latter wont happen.

Its real life! We'll obviously agree to disagree. I think the team reflects the club and if the servants of the club make it plain they won't accept dishonesty of any kind then that will soon become the norm. That's why it is so important to set standards from the top whether in football, politics or anything else. It's not a matter of being holier than thou either it's about an attitude of mind. Football is no more naturally corrupt than anything else. To a great extent players' reaction is about respect. I'll never forget doing pre-season training with Peterborough. A fairly well-known manager joined in with the session which was taken by a coach. In every excercise he cut corners or stole some unfair advantage. I lost all respect for him and wasn't surprised when he failed miserably to revive Peterborough's playing fortunes. That was years ago but I remember it like yesterday.

Wherever Davies bought players from, the fact is they aren't good enough for the Premier League, which may have explained why previous clubs were happy to get rid. Derby hacked, hoofed and bullied their way out of a woefully weak league last season, but those tactics won't cut it in the top flight, as other teams (us among them) have found in the past. The day we start showing an inferiority complex to the likes of Derby will be the time to pack it in and start watching the Tigers.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 12 September 2007 Posted 12 September 2007 I'm starting to wonder if Mandaric has dug a hole for himself a bit over the Manager saga.In the short time he's been here he has backed and sacked Kelly, brought in Worthington and decided he was not the man. Employed Allen, let him sign a bundle of players (or at least some!) then after a few games pulled the trigger seemingly for non football reasons. IF you were a Manager of some reputation, currently employed and fairly secure, would you want to come here given recent events? I suppose money talks and of course there will be plenty of candidates of differing ability and experience willing to take their chances, but I am starting to wonder if Mandaric may have scared off a few decent candidates with his recent decisions? Perhaps, although other managers are obviously not going to be as pissed as we are. They will know if they have something to offer. Wouldn't surprise me to see another manager 'stepping-up' from a position currently deemed to be less glamourous than the Walkers, that way they have nothing to lose.

That was years ago but I remember it like yesterday. No offence fella but you are stuck in the past. Don`t get me wrong, I sometimes wish that the players had the same integrity of yesteryear when they would just punch each other on the pitch and get away with it and be dubbed as hardmen. I also would love to bring back the getting high on drugs and booze brigade who never looked after themselves but were still playing on a saturday. Also the real chairman and boards of the old days who would be making all the money whilst the players didn't earn anywhere near enough of each clubs income needs to be bought back, as does the ancient training methods of running up hills as all this oxygen tank and scientific approach is just no good as its making them all soft lads. Get real fella. Its 2007 and things are done differently today. Go on about MM as he is the devil as much as you want but he isn't the one facing some kind of humanitarian charges, thats the Man City dude. BTW, you know this club of integrity that you keep going on about, having you forgotten the last 10 years? La Manga, Administration and basically being dragged through the mud in the press when they feel like it and being called all sorts from being cheats (ask Colin Wan*er) to having to hope that the kindness of the fans, shareholders and some ex-players like Gary Lineker and Emile Heskey coming to get us out of the shite. We haven't been a club of integrity for years so lets not make out that MM has come and fooked it all up by sacking some dude for apparently being clueless.

The day we start showing an inferiority complex to the likes of Derby will be the time to pack it in and start watching the Tigers. I'm not sure who is showing the inferiority complex but the fact is the sheep shaggers are in the Premier and we are not. The fact is, it doesn't matter how we get there and we don't have to worry about bullying our way up if it works. Only an idiot would not want to have got the chance to get in the premier league and then worry about what we do from there. BTW, the days of going up and expecting to stay up with little money being spent are as good as over. There will be exceptions to the rule but yo-yo`ing clubs will be all the more frequent now that those in the privileged Premiership position can continue to raid the Championship clubs for their best players, just like they did this summer. We can only hope we get promoted (however) and then pray that whoever the chairman and manager is at the time, can somehow throw the cash at new signings like Sunderland have been able to do. As for Derby, well, they also brought in a couple of decent players from this level but are struggling because they didn't make as many recruitments as they should have a real chance fo staying up.
Ultra Posted 13 September 2007 Posted 13 September 2007 After today's appointment, I suspect we may not have to worry for some time about how we do in the Premier League. The Johnstone Paints Trophy is a more likely ambition under this chairman.
