Nothing like snookering yourself.

Is that what it's called?

When he introduced N`Gotty he switched to a 5 3 2, did`nt any one even notice ?? we did look better but as has been said earlier in this thread that may have been Charlton easing off and comfortably seeing out an easy win, we lost to a better team, they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season, we have quantity but not a great deal of quality I`m affraid, and it would`nt matter a great deal who was at the helm, it will take GM a while to take a look at all the players he has at his disposal here, in a way this is his pre season and whilst I don`t believe we will be in relegation trouble this season it is also sadly unlikely that we`ll be challenging at the other end, AGAIN !!

Yes, but I'm too pissed off to even bother posting it.

I've got to say i'm very worried. I know he's hardly been here 5 minutes, but picking 6 defenders in the first XI and then bringing another one on and a defensive midfielder at 2-0 down is horrifying. He must have known that if we were losing and needed to chase the game that he'd need some attacking outlets on the bench. I don't call our bench on Saturday attacking at all, it was grotesque. Where's Ferreira? Where's Kaebi? Where's Djeziri?

How can you pick a team with 6 defenders in it? I don't know many managers that does this. That means you only have 4 other players that aren't defenders. Which looking our selection meant we only had 1 midfielder playing as the other 3 are naturally strikers. 1 midfielder, 1 fookin midfielder. This chap has won promotions, what is he thinking? Do you really win promotions with 1 midfielder?

In 2 weeks time if this hasn't been sorted out, i'm getting off the rollercoaster until the driver get's the boot.

He put 2 defensive players on, at half time, whilst 2-0 down. Thats just sh!t.

Im not gonna go on about Martin Allen, but we need a manager that will take a chance, put 3 up front and go for it. His first few games have confirmed: He's playing a defensive game. And, its hoof ball.

I can't remember having a single shot in the second half. Then again, i don't remember too much of the game, it was dire.

If i knew it was going to be as crap as that, i would have stayed in the pub down the road. Crap Megson.

no point putting 3 up front if you cant defend

there is a weakness at centre half. kisnorbo and mcauley are good players but are missing that something extra which is why too many silly goals are conceded

(set pieces, bad marking etc). a 3rd man with them would sure things up.

i cant imagine that walsh and prior would have been as good without elliot or prior and elliot without walsh etc etc.

this is what this team needs. solidity at the back.

regardless of how attacking your team is it will count for nothing if you cant defend. we cant!

It's not just about new blood. How come so many moderately good players suddenly became awful together? It's just not normal. Something is seriously wrong.

Yeah I fully understand how you feel Lisa I too am alway`s upset when we, not only loose, but offer nothing in the way of a decent performance to our loyal band of travelling fans, however I do feel that the brief flirtation with the 3 5 2 formation COULD be the answer, we`ve got 3 very good centre halves, a choice of at least 4 possible wing backs, and with Weso (when fit) Clem and Humey as the midfield 3 we could be cooking with gas, we did play this way during our most successful period and I reckon it`s worth a go now.

Its Craig Levein all over again "Give him time" "Get behind 'em"

Gary Megson is no different to the Gary Megson who was at Forest and the final year at West Brom. He likes and will play exactly the same football. Would anyone have given Glen Roeder time? Paul Sturrock?? If not, why? It's probably because we know what kind of football they play and don't want that. Megson is no different and will not be in 1,2,3,4 games time.

megsons football will be no different to what we have seen for 7 years then.

we have been shit for too long and our football has been crap. just cos megson is associated with a certain type of playing lets not bash him for it.

we have played hoofball for years

If you have a team that is made up mostly of defenders you will inevitably spend a much greater proportion of the game defending, irrespective of defending ability the law of averages say you will concede more goals.

Yes we do have lapses in defence, but we are not any worse that the majority of teams in this division, we are however one of the worse teams in this division for scoring, that will not improve with the teams he is putting out.

I'm a big fan of 5-3-2/3-5-2. It has been used successfully before, and I like the flexibility that it offers. I also feel that with the lack of experienced full backs we currently have, it would be the best system for us to be using at present.
