Player Ratings v Reading

Walker 7 – Solid and commanding again.

Stearman 7 – Composed on the ball and got forward down the right well. Seems to have a good understanding with Gillespie. Defensively, he was good, often winning headers, even against a much more powerful opponent in Owusu.

Dabizas 7 – Dealt with Kitson with ease for the large part and won virtually everything in the air.

Dublin 6 – Struggled early on, conceding too many free kicks. Got a little better throughout the game, but he did seem tired.

Stewart 5 – Only slightly better than Stoke. His distribution/crossing was inept again, and seemed out of sorts at times.

Gillespie 6 – Fairly average, didn’t really do much. Defensively, he helped out Stearman well.

Gudjonsson 7 – Using the ball better now and wins his fair share of midfield battles.

Williams 6 – A bit anonymous in midfield, but he did display some nice touches and passing on occasions.

Tiatto 5 – Looked well off the pace. Lost quite a few 50/50’s, and he didn’t seem alert in some passages of play.

De Vries 6 – Held up the ball well again, and showed some good touches when shielding the ball away from their central defenders.

Connolly 6 – Spends too much time on the flank looking to create, which often isolated de Vries.

Subs:

Hughes 6

Nalis 6

Heath 6

Therein lies the problem - it's all well and good him making runs into the flanks, but it doesn't get us anywhere. Connolly ends up being out of position which is why he hasn't scored many goals - and it puts added pressure on the midfielders to get into the box to be where Connolly should be. That's the frustrating thing about him - Connolly is paid to be a striker, not a winger.

I don't mind him doing it to offer us an outlet so we can stretch the opposition, but he does it far too often. Strikers do tend to work the channels, but Connolly does it more than most...

Walker - 7 - Only had one save to make, but a vital save.

Stearman - 7 - Looked composed & got forward, but I'm not so sure he's that effective as a full-back just yet. Once he's played more games in that position. Would rather he went on a Pressman diet so we could slot him into the middle.

Dublin - 6.5 - Didn't do a whole lot wrong

Dabizas - 6.5 - Same as Dublin with the usual few Dabizas clearances that only he can explain

Stewart - 6 - Didn't get a chance to get down the wing, which the team needed. Probably due to a Tiatto off-day, with the licence Tiatto gives to get forward.

Gillespie - 6 - Bit ineffective today. Not helped by him picking up a knock

Gudjonsson - 7 - Hassled a lot, which we need. Decent game

Williams - 6 - Reading were well organised so didn't give him a lot of room in midfield

Tiatto - 6 - Not his greatest game. By all accounts he had a knock and so that would explain it.

De Vries - 6.5 - His sheer size & strength cause problems. Holds the ball up well, and tries. Shame he is so slow, which at times caused any breaks we had to grind to a halt.

Connolly - 6 - Someone said it already, he didn't get into any dangerous positions. In fact, I can't remember him having one shot on target. Not sure why he gravitates towards the wing so much (could be because he wasn't getting great service so had to go looking for the ball again)

Connolly is an absolute bag of poo.

We don't need players like him at Leicester. He reminds me of Akinbadbuy - keep giving him chances but he's never going to come good. MDV is everything he isn't ie. he holds the ball up well and passes to his own players!

My rating would all be about 5. I think we look better playing 4-5-1. Our midfield of tiatto, williams, gudjo, hughes and Gillespie is very good for this league, and with MDV its not a bad front 6.

I am aware of that - It will be something I'm planning to incoporate in to my new site from next season.
