dynamite foxes Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 That he will play Dawson, Stearman and Powell at some stage this season Powell looked good but he is not a left back he kept cutting back the whole time which annoyed me as I always think that if you want to be a proffesional footballer you should be able to use your weaker foot, I play for a sunday team and I pratice with my weaker foot. END OF RANT. But I hope he does well, didn't his brother go to Bolton? What position is he normally Stearman - What can I say. He looked really good Dawson looked a bit of a dog he kept fighting the whole team and is quite manourverable, looked comfortable on the ball as well. are there any other rising stars except petresu and o grady who i have already heard about
Pele Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 powell looked average player but strearman looked world class nothink got by him but who was we playing east bangol that aint no one special
Guest Daniel Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 Ithink Stearman will be the most used youngster and i hope he is, he seems very good what ive seen of him. I think we need to bring some youngsters through at some point in the season, like when were 4-0 up at Rotheram and situations like that.
dynamite foxes Posted 3 August 2004 Author Posted 3 August 2004 powell looked average player I have to disagree I thought he was strong and comfortable on the ball and looked a good reader of the game BM hows the signature coming along?
Ricey Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 These players may get in the squad but I very much doubt if they will play much if at all. I never got that impression from Micky at all, he just said that the club had good youngsters.
Guest Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 Going by the Bengal game, I don't think any of our players stood out particularly. This is a shame, as I've read good things about some of the kids that were out there!
Oli Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 I think Micky will play Stearman the odd time, because Micky hasnt played any youngsters regularly in the past but he has played them when needed. Thats what i think he will do with Stearman.

Yes but he says he is most exciting talent he has ever been involved with and that youngsters will get their go as they are the future of this football club
Guest Daniel Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 I just dont know what people mean by youngsters now. 17 isnt too young, look at Rooney and Owen, all good youngsters start breaking through at this age, to say they wont play him yet because he's only 17 is ridiculous.

Yes but he says he is most exciting talent he has ever been involved with and that youngsters will get their go as they are the future of this football club I never said he wasn't exciting and he should be given a go, just maybe not so young. He needs to toughen up a bit pyshically and mentally IMO before he is ready for the first team because if he gets a chance and plays badly it will effect him a lot.
Oli Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 We should break him into the first team slowly. If we just chuck him in then he might be able to hack it.

It's all relative; both Rooney and Owen are quite stockyand well built, so have the strength to cope. A lot of lads don't 'fill out' until their late teens/early twenties, and would struggle with the more physical aspects of the game. Others, like Ormondroyd or Crouch, never put on weight and end up looking like bambi on ice!!
Guest Daniel Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 You forgot Junior Lewis. Owen is stocky and well built?! Well **** me, i must of been looking at the wrong player for years, he's short and thin when i last looked. Damn.
Scow Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 Powell looked very average to me too - Didn't win many headers in the air, and had no left foot whatsoever. Dawson looked good on the ball, and added some bite to the midfield. Petrescu compared him to Roy Keane - I can see the comparison. Stearman was excellent - He won virtually every header in the air, excellent on the ball, and distributed it well.

You can't use Rooney and Owen as comparasions! They are both world class players with proven good attitudes. Rooney is very strong mentally and pretty much nothing effects him, Owen is a model professional. We don't know what Stearman's attitude and personality are like, for all you know he could be really weak mentally and one bad game could turn him suicidal. Rooney and Owen are also strikers, Stearman is a defender. It's harder being a 17 year old defender at this level than a 17 year old striker, why do you think the average age of a defender is higher than the average age of a striker. You need to be mentally strong as a defender or else you will get walked all over.

Guest Daniel Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 Ok Ricey, you win on his one but people saying it about Tommy Wright is crazy!
Guest Guest Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 i think stearman will play 15-20 games this year, and if we get promoted he will then become more of a regular in the side. next season he will have to get experience, and martin keown will give him lots of that.
Ricey Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 Ok Ricey, you win on his one but people saying it about Tommy Wright is crazy! Well Wright is 19 and has played first team football in some capacity for years so he is a different case and perfectly ready mentally for first team football.
dynamite foxes Posted 3 August 2004 Author Posted 3 August 2004 We don't know what Stearman's attitude and personality are like, for all you know he could be really weak mentally and one bad game could turn him suicidal. I know that I was told that he was from Market Harborough he couldn't have a nicer or more supportive family(his family watch him in very game) and that he is a very modest guy and was very shocked that he won Young player of the year

Guest Daniel Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 Well he's the second lightest England playing, weighing only 70kg.
Ricey Posted 3 August 2004 Posted 3 August 2004 Well he's the second lightest England playing, weighing only 70kg. That's because he is small. Izzet, Crouch etc are thin but I would say Owen is well built for his size.
