Just to play devil's advocate for a second....

Joe Mattock became the second youngest ever player to play for the england u21 side....

Is he really that good or is this a sign of the times that alot of young english talent isnt getting the exposure it needs because of the influx of foriegn players?

Is his debut somthing to be proud of or should we be worried?

He isn't that good yet, but he's very young and for his age he is good (Contradictory but does make sense :unsure:lol) he's definitely got potential, he had a good England U21 debut, I think he was picked because of injury to the regular players but he's not harmed himself for future call ups.

We should be proud, and at the moment I can't see anyone coming in for him.

Although someone posted something about Chelsea sniffing round him a while go didn't they?! Sure I read that.

I just hope he doesn't turn out like Stearman, Cracking first season, bags of potential, all went to his head and ever since looks like he couldn't give a shit.

I'm still trying to find out what Stuart Pearce has been taking for him to give Stearman a call up...because whatever he's taking I want some - Might make Leicester look good when I watch them :dunno:

Firstly, he should definitely be proud of a debut for the under-21s, particularly at the age he is at.

However, as much potential as he may have, at the moment there is a hell of a lot being asked of him at club level, the same goes for Sheehan really. There are both having to deputise and are both decent players doing a decent job, but for us at the moment, decent is not good enough. We have too many reasonable players who will do a job and see the season through and at the moment Sheehan and Mattock both fall into this category for me.

Who is to say that a few years down the line, they may make the necessary progression and could be stars in this division but at the moment, that is certainly not the case.

Nevertheless, it is good to see Mattock's progression recognised and it should bump his value up a bit if nothing else.
