Craig Posted 7 March 2005 Posted 7 March 2005 Latics owner threatens to quit Wigan's JJB Stadium has a 25,000 capacity Wigan owner Dave Whelan said he might quit the Championship club over a row that could result in the closure of their ground. Greater Manchester Police is set to close the JJB Stadium on Monday over £300,000 in unpaid policing costs. "I may as well walk away from the game - I may as well walk away from Wigan altogether," Whelan told BBC GMR. The Latics supremo believes his club should not have to pay for policing outside the stadium. Whelan has contacted local Labour MPs, including party chairman Ian McCartney, in a bid to establish the reason behind GMP's policing arrangements but has so far received no response. So now, 10 years after he took over and with his home-town club on the verge of achieving Premiership status for the first time in their history, Wigan are facing a logistical and administrative disaster. Important home games against West Ham and Sunderland will either have to be called off or moved to other venues, raising the possibility of Wigan being fined by the Football League for failing to fulfil their fixtures.      :w00t: :w00t:
shen Posted 7 March 2005 Posted 7 March 2005 To be honest, it's quite a scandal about those payments. I can fully agree Whelan, and it's nothing short of disgraceful the way the police have behaved about it. It's so blatant, especially when Wigan's crowds aren't exactly big..
Guest Daniel Posted 7 March 2005 Posted 7 March 2005 I would fecking love it if this happened. I think Nath would dissapear...
Solihullfox Posted 7 March 2005 Posted 7 March 2005 Saw the Sky Sports News report on this a few minutes ago. At one point the reporter was sitting alone in the stand - looked very similar to their support earlier in the season when we visited them
Guest Daniel Posted 7 March 2005 Posted 7 March 2005 Couldn't they just play there matches at the local park? Im sure all 50 fans could get a decent view...

Wellman Posted 7 March 2005 Posted 7 March 2005 Deary me Wigan boy. What you gunna do now? Maybe no ground but surely that's not a problem for you? :fox:
Guest Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 Actually Wiganboy, I think the way GMP is trying to run their 'protection racket' is wholly unfair, however, given the way you act on this Leicester City forum, were you really expecting sympathy from other posters?
