Should we stop the new signings?

I'd rather like to see some of the players which no longer play a part in Holloway's plans to move on.

Couldn't agree more. I have no problem with him making more signings, but we need to make more progress in moving on the people who don't feature in Ollies plans.

Most of us on here have decided that promotion isn't a realistic prospect this season and with the new signings we have already relegation doesn't look likely either. Should we stop signing any more players until the summer when, the prices should be lower , some of the deadwoods' contracts will be up and Ollie will of had more time to assess the current squad, including some of the youth team.

Thoughts please.

No,

We need 2 new "Experienced" full backs, but most of all a Jason Roberts/Heskey type forward big fast to play alongside Howard to take advantage of our counter attacking ability, this was sadly lacking against Coventry in the second half.

You should never stop trying to improve the side.

I wouldn't want more players signed for the sake of it - I never did.

Nor do we want new signings without people moving otu because the last thing we want is the training ground cluttered again with players who serve no purpose.

Its been reassuring how many have gone while new personnel have come in.

We can still improve certain positions or ensure we have quality players as cover. Who plays, for instance, if either winger gets injured?

Me I'd definitely want a mobile centre-half who reads the game and retains possession when he's won it. With four passing central midfielders available it is sacrilege for defenders to keep giving the ball away unnecessarily.

I edited our squad on Football Manager yesterday to fit what we have now and when you take out the players who will never get a game under Holloway (Nielsen, Kaebi, Maybury, de Vries, Kishishev etc) and the players out on loan (Kenton, Hayes, Dodds etc) there isn't actually an incredible amount of depth. I'd say we definitely need another winger who can cover both flanks and it looks as though Osbourne is coming in either this afternoon or tomorrow. We will also need another left-back if Holloway doesn't rate Sheehan - especially if we carry on looking as dangerous from open play as we did on Saturday. After that I'd say we're about done for incoming activity.

It sounds kind of crazy but I reckon he will buy or loan another big striker too. Howard will become integral to how we play and if he gets injured there's no ready replacement.

Mattock had an excellent match containing Mifsud but don't you think Sheehan wouldn't have benefitted like everyone else from having Oakley and Laczko around him?

Despite his excellent performance, Mattock still offered little going forward and, in fact, noticeably restricted himself in that department presumably because he had a specific job to do and because Laczko could provide the attacking impetus.

I don't know that Holloway doesn't rate Sheehan anyway.

Mattock may have been preferred Saturday for the specific role against Mifsud or may have tipped the selction balance with his outstanding performance in the FA Youth Cup because it's quite rare for a young player to get a first team game after playing in midweek.

Both our left-backs have things to work on but I'd find it extraordinary that a manager would "not rate" or would sacrifice a player who has this season scored/made/had disallowed/almost made such an abundance of goals/chances in favour of someone who, for all his energy, has created very little.

Sheehan has a rare left foot, accurate and capable of striking the ball a good percentage harder than most. He has shown willing to improve and needs to concentrate on his speed and urgency as well as his dead ball kicking. But why anyone would wish to abandon that sort of ability I've no idea.

Indeed I wish Fryatt had been involved in creating as much - and he's a striker.

Agree 100% about Howard and the eight other players you mentioned. Holloway's said he wants cover and I'm sure that's what he'll be concentrating on getting right now.
