The fact is that those pesky eurocrats are appointed not elected and if we don't like what they do we can't unelect them.

Parliament is elected, the Commission is not. You can argue that the Council is elected too.

 Doesn't it mean we relinquish a little too much power though couldn't it come back & bite us in the ass if we have no say on some things?

Depends on what we say no to.

A large portion of our laws do emanate from the commission inBrussels, from people we have not elected. The parliament has a majority of it's MEPs elected by foreigners, that doesn't make them bad people but they have their own constituents to please not us. That means our best interests can be ignored by the majority if they choose and has been on numerous occasions.

I never asked to live in the United States of Europe, I'm quite happy being British. If you're going to take my country away from me at least give me a vote first.

That is a very silly argument. So what if there are foreigners deciding on issues? You say you're happy to be British, yet don't you think that we have problems of this ilk here? There is the urban/rural disparity for a start, and if you want real unfairness, we have Scottish and Welsh MPs deciding on how English schools are being run, and how money is spent on the NHS in England. We (the English) also subside each Scotsman to the tune of £1,500.

If you are that bothered by the EU, then what is going on closer to home must leave you apoplectic!

Any legal framework is going to leave people unhappy somewhere. I don't believe that there is that much influence from Brussels in our legislation, and the legislation that is there, like I said earlier, is designed to encourage free movement and competition in a trading area. If we weren't in the EU, many UK companies would find it more difficult to trade in Europe for a start, and as for the ex-pats sunning themselves in the Costas etc, well they would find it more difficult. However nobody brings that one up in the case against.

As for the referendum, I believe it should go ahead; Honest Tony promised us it, and for the government to go back on a fundamental point like that will be a killer for them in the next election.

I forgot to mention; each Commissioner is chosen by his or her national government. Although they are supposed to be politically unbiased etc, you could argue that by virtue of their appointment, they are elected.

At the end of the day the EU is run by German, France and the UK. Only these have the power of veto and the most MEPs. The new laws passed are, in my mind, based on the correct philosophies of these three countries.

German policy is generally sound, maybe a little too liberal at times and the French is more left wing. Add those to the UK's stance and you have a good well balanced mixture. But one that will never agree.

I'm all for Europe and the trading muscle it lends to the UK with other countries having to trade with the EU.

Not exactly apoplectic, but hardly chuffed either. The thing is these things were implemented by our elected government and when we get fed up with the state of affairs we can vote them out.

It'll be too late by the next election. I'm sure honest Tony won't mind though when he's EU president.
