Ultra Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 From Wiki On 26 May 2000 he was made a Knight Bachelor "for services to literature" at a ceremony in Colombo. The award of a knighthood had been announced in the 1998 New Year Honours, but investiture of the award had been delayed, at Clarke's request, because of an accusation, by the British tabloid The Sunday Mirror, of paedophilia, which was, however, found to be baseless by Sri Lankan police. The Mirror subsequently published a retraction But hey, Daggers, the tabloids are NEVER wrong, are they?
Rincewind Posted 24 March 2008 Author Posted 24 March 2008 Thats good enough for me. Retracted accusations are not proof of guilt as far as I'm concerned. It appears the sunday Mirror published the story, then was shown later that the informaton received was inaccuarate. I see no reason to tarnish the memory of this man as the Sunday Mirror (abeit at a later date), the Sira Lanka police and 99.999999999999999999999% of the British public accept the findings that he was innocent of wrong doing regarding this matter.
Rincewind Posted 24 March 2008 Author Posted 24 March 2008 Touche. Back to things that were not made up.
