Strachan to Pompey

Recommended Posts

Read this in the Telegraph this morning, but it's not on the website for some reason:

Strachan ready to return for Portsmouth's Survival battle

Gordon Strachan is set to be named manager of Portsmouth, just over a year after he left Southampton.

It would complete a remarkable South Coast managerial switch - earlier this season Harry Redknapp resigned from Portsmouth and a few days later took charge at Southampton.

Strachan is poised to join Portsmouth within the next two weeks, possible in time for the game against Southampton on April 23.

While the list of managers who have worked for both clubs is short, for two to manage both in 14 months is unique. But just as Redknapp was welcomed at Southampton, Portsmouth fans are likely to be pleased that a man with such an excellent track record is to lead their battle against relegation.

Strachan left Southampton because he wanted to take time away from management but he is read to return at Portsmouth, who have taken only seven points from a possible 48 since Redknapp departed in early December.

At Coventry, Strachan preserved the club's record of being in the top division since 1967 until 2000-01 when they were relegated to the old First Division. He left a few weeks into the following season but just over a month later, in October 2001 joined Southampton and in 2003 lead them to the FA Cup final, where they lost to Arsenal.

That is hilarious. I can't stand Portsmouth, so I'm glad they've decided to make themselves look silly. :)

It's quite weird though, because it wasn't on the internet like all the other Sports stories that day, so whether they took it down off the net because they realised it wasn't true or what, I don't know
