Chandler Posted 21 April 2005 Author Posted 21 April 2005 If MA had stayed on at city his record would have been concidrably worse than CL. That is what I and most city fans think. 96756 Thought is something most City fans are incapable of. Double Lutz's and triple Salko's don't win footie Championships.
Leicester_Mad Posted 21 April 2005 Posted 21 April 2005 form is deteroriating? one defeat in 9? come off it
Chimp Posted 21 April 2005 Posted 21 April 2005 If MA had stayed on at city his record would have been concidrably worse than CL. That is what I and most city fans think. 96756 I think everyones secretly thinking 'so we didn't play particularly attractive football under MA, but would we really be 3 points above the relegation zone?'96777 I reckon most sensible fans would be thinking something along the lines of... last summer we had an enormous turnaround of players, some 12 first team regulars/contenders left the clubs to be replaced by 10 or so new faces that had never played with each other before. We started the season with group of promising individuals that simply hadn't had time to gel into a team and in all likelihood wouldn't do so until the latter stages of the season, regardless of who was the manager we'd probably still be in the same situation as we are now.
Nationwider Posted 21 April 2005 Posted 21 April 2005 90% of the fans think they play better football since MA left. You are the minority so again this fantasy contradict you argument.  96709 LCFC is not a troupe of woofter ice skaters, Step. There are no point for artistic interpretation in the Championship. 96715 Agreed. Why would anyone care what it looks like, as long as it gets us up the table? Bolton are 4th in the Prem, for God's sake. Big Sam doesn't exactly have them playing to the Ajax model, does he? With this in mind, I hope we go up north on Saturday with the idea of kicking the Mackems to bits. If we try to play football, we will be pulled apart.

Bolton, for example, aren't quite as one dimensional as you make out. CL seems to be trying to cultivate a more sophisticated style of football that, while is taking time to develop within the squad, will see us with a good chance to survive in the Premiership when we (eventually) get there. It's not working quite right at the moment because we seem to have a number of players that still seem to think that hoofing the ball is the only way to get it into the opposition half.

Perhaps my post was a bit "long ball" too. Nevertheless, sophisticated football is the preserve of the fortunate few, these days. MON's sides were never particularly fluent, but they worked harder and played smarter than any other team. Brain Little's '94 promotion squad (the last 10 games and then the play-offs) were a desperate bunch - I think he played about 9 centre backs against Derby? But they bludgeoned their way to the Prem. Norwich play nice footie, and are having a punt now they're playing one or two sides with little to play for, but are still bottom. AND they have pace. This is the key to playing "good" football - pace. The more I think about it, I reckon it's the lack of speed throughout the team than the more obvious lack of a goalscorer that's the problem. If he wants us to play, he'll have to get some speedsters from somewhere by August. Or its another season of being embarrassed by yappy pups like Brighton and Watford.
breadandcheese Posted 22 April 2005 Posted 22 April 2005 The reason we are not able to grind out results is due to Micky Adams's signings and not Levein's style of football. Micky signed - Dabizas, Gudjonsson, Williams, Connolly, Tiatto, Gillespie, Dublin, Makin, Nalis. Out of those, I consider only Dublin and Tiatto capable of being able to grind out results. Thus, the spine (and dare I say bulk) of Micky's team were incapable of grinding out a result, for the reasons of being small, unintelligent footballers or non-combative. Thus, it is no surprise that Craig Levein's team is unable to grind out a result in the same way that Adams's team has suffered this season. It would not matter if we were playing pretty boy football or longball hoof.
Frenzied Posted 22 April 2005 Posted 22 April 2005 What the small anti-Leivein brigade seem to fail to understand is that it takes more than a few months to turn a very poor side around. Although I have a good deal of respect for Adams, by the time he left Leicester he'd lost it. We had a team that looked good on paper but were awful playing together. They also were totally lacking in confidence - all of them. Added to that the club has just come back from the brink of oblivion and has little money to spare. Furthermore, the fans are demoralised. It seems to me like a difficult task for any new manager to say the least. And this is what I can't understand - why judge Levein poorly? When he came to the club he said he was building something for the future, not this season. So far he seems to be doing just that. He's brought in some excellent players on a shoestring budget - surely a big plus. Basically my argument is though, that the rot had set in a long time before Levein arrived and it is not only unfair but naive to say he's done poorly.
Anish Posted 22 April 2005 Posted 22 April 2005 Frenzied - I am not pro Levein or anti-Levein. I was not celebrating when Levein took the job, and I am not going to criticise him without reason. There are certain aspects of Levein's management which I have to question - and that doesn't make me part of the anti-Levein 'brigade' as you call it. I cannot simply accept our abysmal, pathetic attempt at defending set pieces as just 'part and parcel of football' - I will not blame MA for that when Levein has been here since October and things have not improved one bit. In addition, Levein has continued to play players out of position, which is hindering the team badly imo. Finally, the mystery (and silence) surrounding Peter Canero and the bizarre loan signing of Stefan Moore when he isn't going to get any action makes me quite disappointed. But these doubts doesn't mean I want Levein out - I will give him enough time to sort out are predicament before booing him.
