Trouble at FA Cup game

During todays FA cup game between Hull and Millwall the Millwall fans decided to attack Hull fans

Hull City triumphed against Millwall in a very dull game, however in a sad, sad turn of events, the game will be remembered for the day the KC stadium first saw police horses inside the stadium.

Police struggled to control Millwall`s hooligans and the end of each half police horses were required to enter the ground for the first time in the grounds history to ensure trouble did not encroach on to the pitch.

Both sides battled hard in well fought game, goals in either half by Michael Turner and Iain Ashbee secured Hulls' progress into the last 16 in the FA cup for the first time in 20 years.

One thing that Brown will definitely have learnt is that Tony Warner is no where near good enough to vault Matt Duke in the long term goal keeping queue, the former Lions man made a number of errors, the worst of which saw him slip horribly whilst attempting to deal with a back pass.

Warner was then forced to handle the ball, conceding an indirect free kick level with the penalty spot which, fortunately was blasted well wide.

The game was littered with fouls and referee Attwood began to lose control of the game in the first half. He refused to show a card despite some dangerous lunges by the Millwall players who were struggling to cope with the skill and quality shown by the Tigers.

Phil Brown said after the game

'I was pleased with the way we dealt with things. They made it difficult for us and with 17 fouls to our seven in the first half it was always going to be a rough and tumble afternoon but I thought we showed a thoroughly professional approach to the game.'

The visitors, 39 places behind their hosts in the football pyramid, squandered a gilt-edged chance to draw level just before half time. The Tigers boss acknowledged his side were fortunate to escape after Marc Laird blazed over with the game delicately poised.

'It was a bit of a turning point if I'm honest,' said Brown 'If that goes in it would have been a different game but it is a measure of how far we have come in recent years that we came through that and went on to win the game.'

Second half Tigers sub, Caleb Folan, was lucky to stay on the pitch after committing 2 bookable offences. He received a yellow card for a tackle from behind and was lucky not to receive a second card for a similar tackle in front of the East stand, but referee Attwood decided to spare his blushes by given him a stern talking too.

However, after this dull match, in which Andy Dawson made his come back from injury, the main talking point will be the conduct of Millwall fans and presence of police horses in the KC Stadium.

Millwall football club should be ashamed at the conduct of hundreds of their visiting fans. Not only did they rush the East stand, they also rushed the passive West stand which required the redeployment of riot police to protect the "family stand". There was no doubt some of the Millwall 'fans' came to Hull to cause trouble. Questions are bound to be asked as to why, when the police expected trouble, were the scenes witnessed in the KC stadium allowed to happen. Many football fans were left shocked as to the scenes they witnessed.

Yes, in the past, Hull City, like all clubs saw their fair share of trouble, however this has thankfully disappeared and Hull fans are now regarded, across the country, as good fans of a brilliant club. Testament to this was the fact that the Hull fans did not cause the Police more problems by reacting to the Millwall fans.

Trouble started before the game with stewards struggling to hold back the Millwall hooligans from encroaching on the Hull fans. Riot police appeared from both ends of the North stand and tried to control the Millwall crowd, however in a scenes reminiscence from the 1980's, there were hundreds of Millwall fans who were only there to cause trouble for the police. Towards the end of the game at least 20 seats were torn up by the Millwall fans and thrown in the direction of the Hull fans along with countless numbers of bottles and other objects.

Hull fans did their best to not react to the continuous provocation from the Millwall fans and credit should be given to them.

Millwall football club, the Football Association and Humberside Police need to look at the events today and take tough, stern action on those fans who wish to bring our beautiful game into disrepute.

"We are Millwall" chanted the away support, as if the actions of their fans were something to be proud of.

Millwall Football club has had a bad reputation for football hooliganism and a large number of their fans lived up to that reputation.

24 / 1 /09 a dark day for the KC, and for football.

My personal opinion is that it is absolutely disgusting, this game postponed our game and no doubt some of these troublemakers would of been in attendance as well, one can only hope they are all dealt with in an apropriate manner, they started before kick off for ****s sake, what sort if idiots are they...

But if you stand there giving it from three seats away with a riot copper in the middle then don't be shocked when a seat whacks you in the snout. The bloke who got whacked with a seat and lost it, then got hit by a bottle mid-fit was priceless, silly fat northern sack of shit.

Hull used to have a bad reputation for hooliganism. The egg-chasing fans (League) in the city used to be even worse.

I reckon there will have been a fair amount of non-HCFC and MFC day trippers around the ground today.

Typical shi*e........try explaining to an 8 year old why the away support rips out chairs and throws them at the home fans, then again you probably believe thats normal behaviour , now piss off back you your own boards and celebrate your stadium wrecking, no doubt you will all be very proud of yourselves
Whats a matter with you and your boy you sound like your from some posh part of England.

Your from Hull the worst town in England i bet your boy loved the trouble.

When i was about 8 i was taping all the trouble on my own video tape.

How long have you been going to fottball?

Your a bad parent then if you dont want your kid to see violence but take him to an F A cup match against Millwall.

Its like going to a strip joint but not wanted to see a bit of titty.

Thanks. Although the actions of the Millwall fans were obviously appalling and rightly condemned by the writer, the article hardly sounded like a neutral description of the events.

lol at the guy who gets really close then bottles it about 35 seconds in!

I think it's about 9 seconds in, when he gets hit with a missle on his head. Ouch

And the media only says it happens abroad.

It still exists here, but is obviously more controlled because of the huge police presence.

Millwall have always been known for there disgusting antics, I hope they are punished.

when we played there we had the pricks who went just to buy their tickets for the leeds game, therefore when we went 4 - 0 up they weren't very agreeable, the cage you walk through after the match lined with police and dog officers is a bloody scary place to be with them all lining up either side, something needs to be done because it will never get better if nothing is done as punishment to the club, 12 people have been arrested so far but from what i've heard millwall fans are still attacking shops and clubs in hull itself before travelling back tomorrow

Media will completely over do this just because its Milwall, someone mentioned it was Hull chucking coins which prompted the whole thing.

These incidents arn't just one side, Hull should have alot to answer for.

i don't think it can really be over done, it is one of the only matches that has had trouble on this scale for quite a while in this country, the fact that it is millwall is completely coincidental. It certainly is never one sided but if one idiot threw a coin and started several hundred millwall 'fans' attacking their end then hull shouldn't have too much of the blame.  The Millwall fans not only attacked one side but also attempted to attack the family stand which is an absolute disgrace. A single coin throwing incident should not prompt the massive reaction it has obviously got, with Millwall fans apparently still out in force in Hull. It is also notable that the Hull fans have seemingly not reacted to the attack by millwall and have stayed in their positions, albeit with several families leaving

**ck the result,**cking loved it today. those hull fans to our left are the mouthiest **nts i've ever seen. thing is,if your going to stand there and give it all game, then dont start whinging when you get caught up in it when it goes off. proper good turn out today from us lot and on the pitch it was a case of getting punished because we didnt take the limited chances we had. all in all though, good exciting away day and one that makes me proud that we are nowhere near turning into a **cking prawn sandwich brigade club.'

That's not exactly a shock. We all know Millwall "fans" are cvnts who take great pride in so being.
