cisono Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 I decided to buy some turpentine to use as paint brush restorer, as it is supposedly greener than other stuff I came across (full of deadly warnings). Problem is, I can only find "turpentine substitutes" and "white spirit", no turpentine on the horizon. The only place I have seen turpentine is as an ingredient in embrocation lotion, but I doubt that I can use my expired embrocation lotion (25% turpentine) as a paintbrush restorer? If anyone gifted at DIY would care to give me their opinion, I'd be grateful...

As a professional decorator for more than 25 years i can honestly say that I have never used turpentine, only white spirits. If your brush is stiff with dry paint then turps (or white spirit) wouldn't work anyway. Use brush restorer.
