Knighton Matt Posted 3 May 2005 Posted 3 May 2005 quote from bbc 606: Why did Mawene did leave Derby eddielewis@pne? - 27th post - 3 May 2005 18:15 In one of the best mysteries why did Derby release Mawene to possibly sign for Wolves and eventually join Preston. He has been our best player at PNE. Or did he just not get on with George Burley? wasn't he on trial with us pre-season? i seem to remember micky didn't sign him up because he didn't think he was good enough?! and heath and keown obviously were?!
Jonbluefox9 Posted 3 May 2005 Posted 3 May 2005 He was on trial with us when we were in Finland if I remember correctly. Not sure why Micky didn't sign him. Maybe he wasn't impressed with what he saw whereas he was with Makin?
Leicesterboi Posted 3 May 2005 Posted 3 May 2005 Shows his weakness as a manager..spottin player potential. heath just doesnt fit the bill for me and neither did the lies of makin as you said mate.
foxilescom Posted 3 May 2005 Posted 3 May 2005 Was he the centre half that played for us at Barnsley ?, if so, he looked worth a try. He looked good.
Scow Posted 3 May 2005 Posted 3 May 2005 Was he the centre half that played for us at Barnsley ?, if so, he looked worth a try. He looked good. 102725 He did play against Barnsley, and fans that attended that game said he looked promising. Mawene v Heath? Hilarious.

Hilarious. 102759 Wrong He was awful in that game (as was Heath). He was slow and gave away a goal. Similarly and rather incredibly, Makin looked very composed. Mickey certainly bought some shit but Mawene was rightfully passed over on this occasion if a quick decision had to be made.

However, you just have to see how well Mawene has done at Preston this season.

TrickyTrev Posted 4 May 2005 Posted 4 May 2005 He was awful against MK Dons and I am not surpised we didn't sign him.

There was some problem with work permits and contracts wasn't there?

Doesn't sound like there was a big question over his eligibility.
