DANGEROUS TIGER

Pirate Radio

Yea, I know, I am back to the sixties. Listening to pirate radio was great fun, and helped to create an interest in the music. Many obscure groups, and artists were played, and many a D.J. dicovered. It was great to know the government didnt approve, as this added some extra spice. Just obtained some 200 hrs worth of Radio Caroline, Radio London etc on MP3s. Brilliant stuff. Oops, sorry, what have I said to offend you all now?

Radio Caroline

Legendary radio station. Use to work with a sound engineer who use to work on the ship. Told me loads of stories.

Wasn't Mr Blackburn the main man on there?

Not trying to get you going again but I remember one from the 80s which I used to listen to. Cant remember the name. It was when DLT, Simon Bates and the like got the sack from Radio 1 as all the listeners were moving to this pirate station.

No, that's a legit station based in Ireland.

Bates and DLT didn't leave Radio 1 until the early 90s.

Just assumed 252 was based in the atlantic ocean. lol

Back on to piarate stations London's kool fm was a piooneer in the modern era pirate radio scene, now gone legit in recent years.

BBC did a documentary it's a really interesting watch. The lengths they would go through just to play music, concreting flat doors in etc

Yea, there were still some going in the eighties, and I believe even into the ninetiesl The Marine Broadcasting Bill forces them off the seas and the larger stations moved to Holland and were anchored off the coast there, until they were again forced away. They moved into the Dutch rivers and could not be touched there. Ed Stewart became known through Radio London, and there were many others that were regional such as Radio Medway, anchored of the Kent coast but they went early on.I suppose you could say they were the pioneers of todays local radio stations.
