dandannieldanok Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 Without him taking that free-kick, we wouldn't have got there. We'd have gone into the play-offs and played Ukraine, which we probably would have won.
lildave3 Posted 29 November 2009 Posted 29 November 2009 We'd have gone into the play-offs and played Ukraine, which we probably would have won. And may have got an easier route, leading to a final against Brazil Bloody Beckham!
intotheforest Posted 29 November 2009 Posted 29 November 2009 Scholes has been known to suffer badly from it for years and years. He has just got on with his job and made no big deal out of it, just raised awareness about it. The moment Beckham makes a big issue out of it because he hasn't been in the paper for a couple of days in a row; he is a hero. Now Beckham has been undoubtedly one of the greatest footballers in the past decade, but things as minuscule as this being made into something huge really wind me up and he is made out as a hero for it. It's about time Beckham took a Scholes approach to somethings these days.
intotheforest Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Seen a few people mention that Beckham single handedly got us to the world cup. Guess you're all talking about the Greece game. Yes it was a great last minute free-kick. Perfectly excecuted, right in the top corner and totally unsavable. But if any one of you can get a video of the game, watch it. Beckham had a decent game, ran round alot and was generally an inspiration, but he missed about 10 very scorable free-kick and messed up nearly as many corners. If he had delivered a couple of those corners into a better area, or scored 1 or 2 of those free-kicks then we wouldn't have needed him to score the last minute one. It was a great Hollywood moment, and one everyone remembers it, but he didn't single handedly get us the the World Cup, in fact he nearly single handedly made us miss it. That was one of the finest performances for England IMO. Played as if his life depended on it and got his just desserts in the end. Saying that the got us there on his own comments are brilliant. I guess the 5-1 win against Germany didn't help along the way
