Nigel Pearson to plead for extra funds to boost Leicester's promotion push

But who is to say if you don't go up this season that you won't end up in mid-table mediocrity the next season. Teams that get close to promotion but fail, have a bad habit of doing poorly the following season. So from that basis, along with the big games, more money, bigger crowds, more hype, better players to go with the decent ones we already have, Leicester + Linekar back on MOTD - I for one would take promotion every time.

Knowing my side like I do, I think we only have 3 or 4 players who I deem good enough to make the step up. We'd pretty much have to rebuild again. You think alot on the financial side of this argument, and while it's a healthy boost; you will lose a lot of it on restructuring. If you wanna stop up you have to spend, look at Birmingham, Sunderland, Hull, Stoke etc. in recent years.

If you go down, which is normally and the mostly likely case for Forest, the few that shone are soon pipped off of you and you are once again rebuilding and restructuring. Derby have struggled badly due to this, it looks as if Boro now are too.

I would much rather take the risk and wait another season. We can only build on what we have after all and I'm feeling very confident if we go up a year later, we will be stopping there.

This division is bloody difficult to get out of, so if you get a chance to do so you must grab the opportunity with both hands. How can you be confident that you put up a promotion challenge next season? Sheffield United lost the play-off final last year, and look at them now - they are pants. Many teams make it to the play-offs one year and become shite the following year for reasons unknown to mankind.

If we do a Derby, then so be it, but there's no such thing as getting promoted too early. IMO anyways. Clubs like Leicester and Forest who have been utterly shite for years are in no position to pick & chose our promotions. We take what's given.
