davieG Posted 26 March 2010 Posted 26 March 2010 Matty Fryatt could still play a significant part for Leicester City this season, according to manager Nigel Pearson. The 23-year-old striker returned to light training this week after recovering from a broken jaw. He is making good progress and has stepped up his comeback by training with the first-team squad. Fryatt has also started to put back on some of the 19lbs of weight he lost after having his jaw – which was fractured in two places following a challenge from Doncaster Rovers captain Brian Stock just over six weeks ago – wired and plated. He was completely inactive at home for four weeks to allow the bone to heal, and head physiotherapist Dave Rennie told the Mercury two weeks ago it was touch and go whether Fryatt would play again this season. However, the original prognosis was it would take around eight weeks before Fryatt returned to full training and he appears to be well on course. Pearson said he was delighted to have his 12-goal top-scorer back with the group. "Matty has trained with the first team, but it is still non-contact at the moment," said the City boss. "It is good to have him back in the fold and I am sure he will play a significant part before the end of the season. "He has been feeding himself up and has put some weight back on, so it is nice to see him back training with the rest of the lads." Pearson is considering making changes for tomorrow's trip to local rivals Derby County following Tuesday's 2-1 home defeat to Reading. City face three away games inside seven days, with the trip to Cardiff City on Tuesday night followed by the visit to second-placed West Bromwich Albion next Friday, and Pearson may decide to freshen up his side to keep their play-off bid on track. On-loan striker James Vaughan should be fit after a hamstring strain, but left-back Bruno Berner is definitely out, meaning Ryan McGivern is likely to continue to deputise, with player-coach Chris Powell on stand-by to face his former club. Defender Alex Bruce is recovering from a hernia operation and could be back next week. Wayne Brown will be pushing for a return to the side, while new arrival Jay Spearing could make his first start for City since arriving on loan from Liverpool this week. Spearing went on as a late substitute against the Royals and Pearson was pleased with the 21-year-old's debut. "I thought Jay did very well when he went on, although he will be disappointed that he was involved in a losing side," said Pearson. "We have been monitoring him for a while and there were a number of clubs interested in him. "It is good that clubs are happy to send their young players to us. I think it reflects that we look after players when they are here." Another new arrival to Belvoir Drive is winger Kyle Bennett, who has joined City on a two-week trial from Wolverhampton Wanderers. "We are just going to have a look at him, see how it goes and then take it from there," said Pearson.

Dylan Posted 27 March 2010 Posted 27 March 2010 Does anyone know when Fryatt could be back competing for a place in the side?
Spiritwalker Posted 27 March 2010 Posted 27 March 2010 Does anyone know when Bruno Berner is back ? It is no coincidence our worse runs have been when he is missing.
