Floridafox Posted 2 May 2010 Posted 2 May 2010 I'm sure someone's already asked this but do away goals count in the play-offs? Didn't they ditch that rule in the League Cup? Can't recall whether they still count in the play-offs.
Jordan Posted 2 May 2010 Posted 2 May 2010 Moot point anyway; we're winning on aggregate after 180 mins.
AyewJoking Posted 2 May 2010 Posted 2 May 2010 i thought they only counted after extra time but maybe they ditched that rule?
Guest DavidJCW Posted 2 May 2010 Posted 2 May 2010 The away goal rule is one of the most ridiculous rules of the game. To say that just because a team has scored an away goal makes it worth more is absurd. Take the Liverpool Europa League match... 1-0 Madrid then 2-1 Liverpool... Madrid win because they scored an away goal... what about Liverpool? They scored 2 in a game against their defence... Madrid couldn't score more than 1 at home whereas Liverpool scored 2 at home... It's a stupid rule that unfairly knocks a team out of a competition when they haven't strictly lost overall.
Anish Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 Away goals don't count. If the tie is level after the second leg, we have extra time and if necessary, penalties. http://www.football-league.co.uk/play-offs/news/20100501/how-the-play-offs-work_2246527_2040667

jaspal1000 Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 The away goal rule encourages a higher proportion of visiting teams to adopt a progressive or counter attacking style thus increasing the chances of an entertaining match for fans and viewers. It's interesting to note that there is very little criticism within the game and from pundits about the away goals rule. They, of course, are only too well aware of the absolute snoozefests that we would have to endure without it.. agreed
