marbelladave Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 I think that you expect an awful lot of everybody. Wellens always makes himself available as an outlet and links up the play well. You seem to expect him to make killer passes all the time, score goals as well, and not make an occasional cockup! Without Wellens, there would be a lot more hoofing the ball upfield. King gets forward into the box and scores goals. Wellens job is to stay back more and link up play. Spearing worked hard, closed down well, won the ball back, and chased back to make vital tackles. I was skeptical about him at first, but he won me over. Don't forget he doesn't have much experience at our level, and will improve. I accept that I expect a lot and am pretty critical, but I have always been this way and at least I try and give reasons for my views and offer suggestions of how we can do better. Of course as I am merely a 'fan', I get given a hard time by some (I don't mean you), but I continue to argue my case with anyone who wants to talk about football. Wellens is in many ways a likeable player, enthusiastic and fiesty he always tends to catch the eye but what does he actually achieve? Defensively he is poor positionally and although his enthusiasm means that he gets to make some tackles he gives away too many free kicks and picks up too many cards. He shows for the ball well enough but his distribution is wasteful and in forward positions he has few ideas, he rarely shoots and fails to play in his forwards, for me it is simply not enough. Spearing lacks experience, this is clear. But to me, at this stage, he is just another hard working midfielder who can do a job without ever being able to change a game, decent enough but not a starter, even at our level. He may well improve but that is speculative, not worth spending real money on unless you can be sure of genuine improvement and at the moment I am not confident of that.
Onions Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 This topic is yet another topic of Leicester fan expecting too much. most people have sat here and slagged of Mcgivan (Who might not have been great but certainly wasn't half as bad as the so called fans make out) and anyone slagging off Yann is a retard to. If he scored that Pen by chipping it you would all be forming a queue to suck his cock. it was a fooking amazing season, simply amazing, play offs semi's after just coming up, but some of you idiots will never be happy.

If he scored that Pen by chipping it you would all be forming a queue to suck his cock. it was a fooking amazing season, simply amazing, play offs semi's after just coming up, but some of you idiots will never be happy. We have undoubtably had a fantastic season and I am generally delighted with our progress as a club. By making detailed critiques of our performances and players it may seem that I (among others) are being overly critical but that is not the whole story by a long way. That our club has been totally revitalised in the two years under Pearson is clear to anyone with an ounce of sense but if we are to achieve our aim of getting back to the top tier, then we need to improve still further, as falling in the playoff semi final made clear. I am well aware of our financial limitations which is why I do not draw up lists of players that we can not afford preferring instead to offer suggestions of how we can improve by building a team and working to get more out of the players we do have rather than by splashing money on players to provide a quick fix, players such as DJ Campbell for example. No, my criticisms are based on my very positive belief that we can do better and that our aim next season has to be for another sustained promotion push. Whether the championship will be easier or harder next season is not the issue, what is, is that we need to be better than we were this year. Clearly keeping Pearson is a big part of what happens to our club next season and this is one area where we need to spend, both in terms of improving his contract and giving him sufficient funds to continue his team building.
Corky Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 Weale 9 - Top signing. For a free transfer we got a true bargain. Made some errors but that's to be expected, one dreadful one, but very solid and dependable. Wellens 8- Like this guy. Quality on the ball, gets stuck in and looks to play it even when the game is in the air. Gallagher 8 - Got great technique, two memorable free-kicks, a superb volley, 30-yard chip and a backward header. He's been played out of position a lot so we may still see more from him yet. Waghorn 9- What a signing. Good return of goals, plenty of fight and determination and he showed his passion for the club after he missed the penalty the other night. Hope he comes back here at some point. Neilson 4- You work hard, you had a very good game at Qpr, but I was never convinced. N'Guessan 6- Showed plenty of promise, frustrated by his unwillingness to use his pace and take players on. Healthy return of goals however, and a powerful header of the ball. McGivern 3 - Well, I'll say I actually feel a bit sorry for him, because his rival for the left-back spot is a crowd favourite and a very competent defender. But, too many basic errors, struggled against most wingers he played against, not impressed. He did, in fairness, have a decent cross. Kermorgant 5 - Brilliant goal, good in the air, but not convinced at all yet. Much prefer Howard. Solano 7 - Great technique, would be better used in the middle (though he's not a bad right-back). Spearing 7 - Improvement on Oakley, battles hard and added something to the side. Vaughan 6 - This is a difficult one. Clearly hampered by injuries, he showed some skill on the ball, scored a lovely goal but kept falling over in good positions. If we sign him permanently then next summer would be a better time to judge. Bruce 6 - Would be a useful signing. Looks a decent footballer and can play the ball out of defence.
Bettsj2 Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 Weale - 9 - Apart from Derby, has done nothing wrong all season. Rare to find a Goalkeeper this good. Wellens - 8 - Started the season well, drifted away but then came strong at the end. Money well spent. Gallagher - 8.5 - Played a variety of positions and added value to all of them. Expect him to be more influential next season. Waghorn - 8 - Scored goals and made a menace of himself. Improved so much as the season went on. Neilson - 1 - Worse than Alan Maybury N'Guessan - 8 - Hasn't played much and blows hot and cold but still chipped in 6 goals. Great impact player and if he finds consistency will be completely unplayable. McGivern - 0 - Worse than Nielson Kermorgant 7.5 - Struggled to fit in but the penalty showed me that he has what many City players have lacked over the last few years. BALLS. This guy could be a real star for us and if we give him our backing then he could be. Solano 7 - Not signed as a right back but did a job when required. Definitely worth another year. Spearing - 7.5 - Good quality player. The sort we need to step up to the next level. Vaughan 7.5 - Looks superb. Sign him permanantly and he'll score 20 next season. Bruce 8 - If he was 2 or 3 inches taller he would be the perfect centre back to lead the defence. As it stands, he's the perfect foil for Hobbs. A superb signing that has strengthened our defensive options. Would definitely take on a permanant.
bald reynard Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 Weale - 8: Other than Fulop, he's the best keeper we've had for some years (though that's not saying much !). I just wish he'd catch more and be a bit more decisive and commanding in his area (ie talkative !) Wellens - 7: He's done OK, but is a bit 'one-dimensional' Gallagher - 7: He's alright, but over-rated in my opinion - certainly by Pearson Waghorn - 9: I can understand why Bruce wants to keep him Neilson - 3: A disaster (even his throws aren't very good) - did no one see him before signing ?! N'Guessan - 6: OK. He does have age on his side and COULD develop McGivern - 4: He's no left back, but might make a decent Centre Back (at Championship level or below) Kermorgant 5: I would have said OK and given him a 6 if it wasn't for ..... ! Solano 6: The old guy did OK. Not really worth signing though at his age Spearing - 6: He's no more than 'alright' (even at Championship level) - and didn't really add anything to the side. Perhaps if he was a 'free', he might be worth signing - but he won't be ! Vaughan 7: Would be a gamble signing, but I think it might be worth it (if £500k or less !) Bruce 6: Could be a good squad player - if 'free'. He didn't replace Brown though - on the pitch anyway - he probably did in the dressing room !
