Jordan Posted 31 May 2010 Posted 31 May 2010 A party that calls itself "the Best" has won local elections in the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik. The Best Party, founded by comedian Jon Gnarr, secured 34.7% of the vote, ahead of the Independence Party's 33.6%. Its campaign video featured candidates singing to the tune of Tina Turner's "Simply The Best". Key pledges included "sustainable transparency", free towels at all swimming pools and a new polar bear for the city zoo. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/10194757.stm I'd quite like to visit Reykjavik. It seems like it's an entire city of hipsters, though.

Jordan Posted 3 June 2010 Author Posted 3 June 2010 Give us our money back Iceland Don't make us and the Dutch come up there!!! If this trend continues, Iceland will have comedians-turned-politicians trying to clean up the mess left behind by fishermen-turned-bankers. In this case, I'd say the chance of UK depositors getting their money back is somewhere between nil and zero.
shen Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Give us our money back Iceland Don't make us and the Dutch come up there!!! Can't really blame the Icelanders for not wanting to be heavily indebted and crippled to a third world nation level, because some complete duffers in parliament chose to assure the incompetently led Icelandic banks Really the money-lenders, i.e. the 'English' and the 'Dutch' are just as much to blame...
