marbelladave Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 I think we need to say to the likes of Lampard, Heskey, Carrick, SWP, Terry and maybe even Rooney for a while, thanks but your international career stops here. I would include Gerrard, Cole, Johnson and one or two others. Hart Johnson Rio Dawson A.ColeHuddlestone BarryMilner Gerrard JohnsonDefoe That'd be my starting XI for the first qualifier. Having two sitting midfielders seems to work in international football, it means your front four can attack and stay forward. Only person I might replace is Rio but couldn't think of anyone to go there as I think Terry has had his day. Richards? Cahill? Jagielka? I don't know. Capello needs to ditch the 4-4-2 and ship out the underachievers. I would like to see players like Gibbs, Rodwell, Young, Walcott, Agbonlahor, Sturridge, Wilshere all given a go. Nice try but no cigar, bit half hearted if I might say so. So I offer the following changes, Harte. Shoo in no problem, picking a number 2 could be a bitch though. Johnson. Agree as well, primarily because ther is no real alternative, Richards might be an option but only if he gets to play regularly at full back. Ferdinand. Our best defender when fit but that was about 2 years ago, now permacrocked, should be gone. Bring in Cahill, Shawcross and Jagielka and see who pairs up best with Dawson. (Question, Dawson plays on the right, are any of the others happy on the left?) Dawson. Agree, composed player needs to be given a chance, if we chose a youngster as his partner this will be vital. Cole. No way. Prime example of the 'culture' that is rotting the life out of England. A complete **** off the field and arrogant and self obsessed on it. We will never break in a new left winger/midfield with him in the side, he has already seen off Downing and Young, not any more! Introduce Gibbs with Baines or Warnock as back up. Huddlestone. Not a bad shout but he has weight issues like several of 'Arry's boys, get fit and he would be backup. For me Rodwell has to come in, alongside the experienced Barry, baby him along a bit if necessary but he needs to be playing now. Barry. Agree, team captain. So long as he form in SA is only a fitness issue and not some sort of decline. Milner. Maybe, but I would like a little bit more pace, Walcott, Lennon (when fit) and Adam Johnson need to get a look in. Gerrard. No way. We have had 6 years of underachievement, enough!. Joe Cole perhaps if he starts playing regularly but it is also time to introduce Wilshere, slowly if necessary. Johnson. Good shout, though he can play on either side. Ashely Young should get to play a few games without getting fooked over by Cole, still interested to see what he can do. Defoe. No way, useless as a lone frontman. Good impact sub though. Difficult choice this, should be Rooney really but we have to get past all this 'England's Talisman' and 'world class' bollocks and get him playing for the team. While we are waiting we should look at Agbonlahor and Zamora. This team needs to forge it's own identity and style, free from all the baggage of the 'Golden Generation', then and only then could the return of Rooney and, if he ever grows up, Cole (Cashley) be contemplated
marbelladave Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 I'd personally turf Barry out aswell. I don't know whether his lack of match fitness was the reason behind it but he just look so out of place in the Germany match, couldn't pass, couldn't tackle, couldn't run. If his performance at this tournament were typical of him then I would agree, but they are not. Assuming he can get back to where he was 6 months ago then he is a shoo in. In fact he would be my choice for captain in a youthful side, see post above.
