ibbosuk Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Look it does not matter which team we pick, the squad as a whole is only top 6 at best, after saturday we will probably be looking at 1 point from 9, Which is Clearly not good enough!! (((FROM NOW ON WE DO NOT NEED ANY MORE SQUAD PLAYERS WE NEED QUALITY 1ST TEAM PLAYERS ONLY))).......

braindead Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 I haven't seen a player cause as many arguments at Burnley for years as Chris Eagles - We currently have two trains of thought - one is "No end product" and the other is "Causes problems because of his pace". I am in the second camp, we played Martin Paterson on the right side of a front three after his recovery from injury towards the end of last season and he caused a lot of problems with his accurate delivery, so he has retained the position. I personally think that Eagles is more of a danger because he draws defenders towards him and has decent skill and pace - his crosses though generally hit the first man and his long range shooting is embarassing! What about this takeover for Leicester? How much cash do you have to throw around and will you see any money this window or will you be paying the inflated prices in January?
Madrid_Fox Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Only 5 subs? Sorry, forgot to put Gallagher in there.

I have always rated Tyrone Mears, despite his piss poor attitude towards his team mates and his coaching staff, but he is a decent player. Iwelumo can be dangerous up front and Alexander is a great player aswell, perhaps too good for the championship. One thing I like about this Burnley team is that its not quite the big and brutal Burnley teams that we have seen in the past. Good passing side and their goal against Forest was a great manouvere.

I would be more than happy if we are ONLY a top 6 team in the championship...

No more squad signings just quality that will improve our promotion chances.
CheshireFox Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 whatever happens we just better win, because my boss is a Burnley fan and i think he'd be suspicious if i rang in sick monday morning. I cannot cope with gloating. however should we win i will of course be in full on gloat mode myself
HonradaRaposa Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 I would love to know your logic behind that statement Dyer falls in to the Hume catagory of player IMHO, headless, clueless and fairly talentless. It seems at Leicester if you have a hint of pace you are considered good.

Houdini Logic Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Dyer falls in to the Hume catagory of player IMHO, headless, clueless and fairly talentless. It seems at Leicester if you have a hint of pace you are considered good. Dyer is probably the only winger we have who understands the concept of being a winger - get to the byline and get a cross in! Not only that but if noone is showing then Dyer will happily try to take on the player (often successfully), rather than choosing the mundane backwards pass that most of our players would go for. Dyer was different class when we were in league one and although his form dipped last season, if pre-season's anything to go by then he will be a nightmare for other teams in this league.

Perhaps you should start a 'campaign for real wingers'... None of this 'inside out', 'come inside on your stronger foot' nonsense! Go outside the fullback, cross from the byeline to the center forward to power home with a bullet header. I remember it well, 6/- to stand in the Kop, pint for half a crown, proper football....those were the days...

marbelladave Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 You have included Dyer in your pick for Burnley. Why? I am not sure where that question is coming from... However I will try to answer it 'straight'. For what it is worth I think there are very few wingers in the modern game, by that I mean wingers who take on the fullback on the outside, get to the byline and cross for the center forward. Both they and the 'traditional' center forward have virtually disappeared from English football. I can give you chapter and verse as to why I think this has happened, but suffice it to say that this style is increasingly rare. The modern 'winger' is either a wide midfield player who gets up and town, 'tucks in' to help out in midfield and hits most of his crosses on the diagonal from 20 yards out (Steve Guppy anyone) or are primarily strikers deployed from wide positions to support a lone central striker. Lloyd Dyer fits firmly into the second category, cutting inside a lot and looking to provide a goal threat, this naturally draws defenders to him so if the shot is not on hopefully there is someone with a bit of space, (he's called Andy King). That is, his primary job is to make things happen by driving into the box, not hitting crosses from the byeline. Dyer has something of the winger about him so he provides a completely different threat than a 'proper' striker, such as DJ, does from the same position, I like the variation. I consider myself a pragmatic person, one of my basic beliefs in football being that you should get the best out of the players you do have, rather than lusting after players you don't, however I do feel we have a pressing need for someone to lead the line, Howard for all his combativeness is too slow and (Palace excepted) rarely scores or creates and I an not at all convinced the Fryatt can play the role either. Of the players in our squad. the one with the clear ability to play this role is Danny N'Guessan, though whether he has the belief and the application to do so is still open to question...
