marbelladave Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 Why don't we just change the name of this thread to...."List my favourite players".... and be done with it. Most of the posts show that the concept of balance or shape are completely missing and that the poster has not even the faintest grasp of what Sousa is trying to do. Sousa is learning about his squad every game and his team selection reflects that, it took him less than hour (against Palace) to work out that we can not play 4-4-2, switching to 4-3-3 in the second half, it took NFP about a season and a half to work that out. Whilst the switch undoubtably worked in that it made us more solid it had another less positive effect. The change of formation, along with the introduction of Howard, actually slowed down our attacking play, we had loads of possession but by the time we got the ball forward we were attacking a defence that was prepared and well manned. Our best attacking play of the season came at Palace, even in the first half we attacked quickly and with purpose creating chances and hitting the woodwork, a bit of luck and none of the glaring defensive errors and the half time scoreline could easily have been reversed. In the short period at the start of the second half, before the subs were made we totally dominated and scored a well deserved goal. It was unlikely that we could have continued at that pace so changes were probably necessary and the substitutions did change the game, though not entirely for the better. Sousa still has lots of work to do in all areas of the field, I could list them but that would need another thread on its own...

Tommy G Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 This would be my team: GK- Chris Weale LB- Bruno Berner CB- Moreno CB- Jack Hobbs RB- Robbie Neilson LM- Lloyd Dyer CM- Richie Welluns CM- Andy King RM- Dj Campbell ST- Matty Fryatt ST- Steve Howard Firstly, give me a reason why you would drop Oakley and secondly switch to a 4-4-2, when DJ isn't even a winger? Take it you didn't go to the game on Sat when Oakley was one of our best players alng with Neilson and DJ. then again the Oakley hate brigade will always want him out the team however well he plays
Madrid_Fox Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 Weale Neilson Hobbs Moreno Berner (Captain) Oakley King Wellens Campbell Dyer Howard Subs - Logan, Lamey, Morrison, DNG, Fryatt Going to be a toughie on Saturday. It is going to be aphysical game, however they also have good footballers who can pass and move. Therefore, no changes from the game against Boro

bettso Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 I'd go: - GK Weale RB Lamey RCB Moreno LCB Hobbs LB Berner CM Oakley CM Wellens CM King ST DJ CF Howard ST Fryatt Subs Logan, Nielson, Morrison, DNG, Gallagher, Dyer, Kennedy As well as Nielson and Dyer have played in the first couple of games, there ability is limited. Lamey looks like he has more pace and drive to support the 3 man midfield and Fryatt offers much more goal threat than Dyer. Gallagher can compliment the midfield or attack and DNG and Dyer offer the option of a switch to 4-4-2. It will be a tough game on Saturday and i'd be happy with a point.
Callabinho Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 Really?? Been one of our best players for me He was very good in the first half against Boro! but he needs to work on that final ball!
Callabinho Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 He will start more or less with the same team he did against boro with two changes, Lamey for Neilson, and Fryatt for Dyer.

Houdini Logic Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 Firstly, give me a reason why you would drop Oakley and secondly switch to a 4-4-2, when DJ isn't even a winger? For me 4-4-2 sounds good against Burnley and as such I would also drop Oakley.
