Guest Posted 24 August 2010 Posted 24 August 2010 Was over in England and watched the Boro game. thought we were pretty decent but... Moreno is no central defender big guy, looks cool but had no idea about positioning or how to head a ball. Looked like a midfielder (as they really don't care about heading balls anywhere in particular) not a defender. hope Soussa gets him out of the defence. Lamey looked a natural defender when he came on.
lildave3 Posted 24 August 2010 Posted 24 August 2010 Morrison and Hobbs is definitely a much better option imo. I'll be honest, i've not been that impressed with Moreno in either position so far. Seems to be a myth that he's a ball playing type of player.
VampLCFC Posted 25 August 2010 Posted 25 August 2010 Yea Sousa was quick to take him off at half time last night and bring King on!
marbelladave Posted 25 August 2010 Posted 25 August 2010 Anyone at the game like to comment on how he played first half, be really nice to know... I have been banging on for ages that we need to involve King and Gallagher as much as possible, King might not be a classic playmaker but he is the man who really makes things happen in midfield and Gallagher provides the creative spark around the box. With King going box to box and Gallagher primarily an attacking player we need a more defensive player to balence the mix, I assumed Moreno would be that man but Sousa thought otherwise and chose Wellens instead after the break. Interesting...
xplicitmaterial Posted 25 August 2010 Posted 25 August 2010 i thought he had a decent game at boro but thats the only time ive seen him play. But agree he should play as a CM instead, but i'd like to see king, wellens, gallagher as our 3 mid players

Interesting... I though he did ok but I've yet to see him be the smooth passer of the ball he still seems inclined to lob balls over the oppos back line and with only Howard anywhere near that wasn't going to work. After Kings introduction I have to say I've not seen so many Leicester player attack the penalty box for years when Wellens score, incidently set up with a neat little side pass from King it could easily have been Moussa to make the final touch as there were so many of our players in there. Howard also looked a different player being spoilt for choice as to who to lay the ball off to King or Gallagher who were both regularly attacking the central position. It was a delight to see.

Spot on, Davie. Moreno was solid enough although I think I'd describe his vision and distribution rather more positively than you have. But the change in the second half, which was partly due to King, but partly just a change in attitude in the midfield, when they were willing to push forward far more than had been the case first half, really gave Leeds problems. And Howard's increasingly deft lay-offs were an unexpected delight. I can still picture one - a perfect chest down into the path of an onrushing Gallagher that seemed to wrongfoot several Leeds players in one touch.

I didn't mean to be negative about Moreno, I'm sure based on what I've seen he's got a lot more to come but at the moment I don't think he's looked comfortable and probably needs more time to acclimatise himself to the Championship and for the other players to get used to his thinking after all that was his 1st game in midfield.
