Clive Redman Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Steve Walsh on Sven's appointment as manager... "As for Mr Eriksson’s appointment, I’ve been giving it a lot of thought over the last few days. People have been texting and calling me about it and I’ve got to say that the future looks positive under Sven. I spoke with Pontus Kaamark who as a fellow Swede, obviously knows him well, and Pontus said he’s a really nice bloke ad a great coach. I’ve never met Sven, but I’m looking forward to doing so. From what I’ve been told he likes to get good coaches in around him and then oversee training from a far. That has to be good news for Chris Powell and working with the likes of Fazackerley will certainly benefit his coaching career. "I hope Sven keeps Chris and Mike Stowell involved as much as possible, and the fact the he knows Powelly from his England days will be a bonus. The Swede has also brought Derek Fazackerley to the club and for me, that’s an absolute masterstroke. He is a top man and a top, top coach. I know Derek from my time at Wigan and he did a lot of great work at clubs around the North West, playing a major part in Blackburn Rovers’ revolution in the early 90’s. He’s a proper football man and I’m very, very pleased that he’s going to be involved at the club." For more see... http://www.soarmagazine.co.uk/2010/10/08/steve-walsh-blog-svensational/

It's vital to have an authority figure in the backroom staff and he seems to fit that mould to a tee. No disrespect to Bruno but it seems he just wasn't in the mould of a typical English assistant manager especially as posters were saying that players weren't even paying attention to his warm ups.

Part of the "Eriksson effect" appears however to be his (unique?) ability to create a loyal coaching and management TEAM as well as training, inspiring and motivating players? This has been illustrated throughout Sven's almost un-equalled career that saw him take a whole series of low to mid ranking European clubs to top honours and create the "golden generation" from the ashes of Euro2000 to go on to set many all time records for England and lose ONLY 5 competitive games 2001 - 2006. It will be something of surprise (to some who have only been influenced by the media duplicity and hype that has surrounded him), to find that Eriksson is nothing like his fictional media created image and those who know his history and character do not recognise the image that has been invented for him in recent years...
Corky Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Fazackerley sounds like a really sensible appointment. Liking this new era so far.
Jakemoore Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 This tells us nothing, walshy will always be the most optimistic but unrealistic person at Leicester. When he commented on the games during the relegation season he said we were gonna win every game, we'd go 1-0 down and he'd be sure that we would win 2-1, at 4-0 down he still wouldn't accept that we were gonna lose.don't be persuaded by good old Walshy, just wait and see.
