How do we improve the atmosphere...

Recommended Posts

There have been a few topics debating the poor atmosphere at the Walkers over the past season or so; however, there has been little in the way of ideas as to how we as fans can remedy this.

One possibility, as has been discusssed previously, would be for the vocal support in L1 to move back or to the kop. I think this is a good starting point, as if there are more voices together we can create more of a wall of sound at the stadium, rather than having disporate chanting coming from various sections of the ground.

That's just one idea; does anyone else have any other suggestions as to what the fans can do to create more of a fortress Leicester atmosphere for home games?

Encourage singing, give out song sheets so the new young fans can learn the songs!!! make sure the fans no that just because no is singing around you doesnt mean you shouldnt.....just encourage it maybe have a competiton for the loudest stand that can sing get everyone invloved

Nice ideas. Here's a link with some classics for all those that need to learn them:

Classic Leicester songs

I think it's also important to try and instil an attitude among the fans whereby if things aren't going well, rather than start moaning and booing, we get behind the players and try and lift them. Although, after the past two seasons this is no easy task. How you encourage that kind of attitude I don't know.

We need to create a buzz around Leicester about the team and try and dispel or at least hold back the "same old Leicester" attitude that pervades the city. Not easy but by showing enthusiasm about what Levein is trying to do is a good start.

If everyone does their bit eg sing as loud as possible then it should catch on and those that don't usually sing might join in. Not easy as I know what it's like to be the only one singing with lots of people turning around and staring like I'm an alien. Maybe if the Kop increases the volume a little bit which may happen if those in L1 move there then the East stand might join in too. Think about what's more important. Spurring the team on or having verbal battles with the away fans? To some people it's the latter but those in L1 could help more by moving to the Kop imo. You can't force people to move.

Got to move the singers to the A&L stand.

No

there is no point in moving the singers you need to encourage everyone to sing. If you move people the move that move in to there space when sing it wont solve the problem

Get rid of the boring announcer before and at half time, his voice is dull. They need to play some music that gets everyone rocking, and play it louder than it already is. Change the half time, have Birch on but last 5 minuete's get the music loud and proud and rocking. They need to pump the crowd up before the game for 15 minuete's and for 5 minuete's before the team come out for the second half. It's all well and good us trying to get some atmosphere but the club have to help as well in my opinion, they have to learn how to whip the crowd up into a frenzy.

we need to build the atmosphere up before the game, so the fans can carry it on.

At wolves they have a bloody disco before the game that everyone sings along to.

Fair enough when the players come onto the pitch the post horn gallop isnt all that bad but it doesnt build the atmosphere.

I remember when we played our first game back in the prem against southampton and they played that "lets get ready to rumble" it got slated but i thought that was a good idea.

The fans need to come up with a song thats played over the speekers 10 minutes before kick off so everyone is in a singing mood by the time the game kicks off.

A bit like Liverpool and Celtics il never walk alone. that makes the hair stand up the back of your neck listening to that. it must also be quite intemidating aswell.

stand up!!most vocal teams have a section of the ground where people stand throughout the match..... L1 is the place at the mo but it could be the kop.... please dont post all that its dangerous and a health hazard stuff

Start bringing scarfs such as at Liverpool and Celtic!

I like the idea of louder music but then you get people complaining about how they can't hear themselves think etc. They all start ringing in the moan in saying the tanoy's too loud. They should expect noise when they go to a football match.

I'm not a 'Henry hater'. I'm grateful that he offered his services to the club but his version is too bland. The version they play when a goal is scored has more of a beat to it in the background.

I think they should play lively tunes for an hour before the game kicks off. They should not play current hits like they do most of the time. Go back to some classic songs that everyone knows and loves. Make announcements for the first 5 minutes of half time, get them over and done with. Get the Birch out for 5 minutes to do something or say something and then get one or two tunes playing to whip the crowd up before the second half starts. Scrap the PHG when a goal's scored. I think the announcer should say the players first name and let the fans shout his second. That should be done when the team's announced too. Gets the crowd involved. Also, the away team should be read out very quickly so the opposition fans don't get a chance to get each player up for it.

Just a few ideas.

i agree that the atmosphere doesnt sound good in most areas of the ground, however i sat in the cop against derby and the atmosphere was awesome. this might have been because it was a huge derby game

someone shud build a small band who bang drums and music shud be put on full blast. also some catchy chuns for when we score.

Bring in scarfs, and hold them up, or wave them around. That would be one way of making the fans look more intimidating.

Another way is to boo or hiss when the opposition have the ball. Liverpool did against Chelsea and it really put them off.

I want standing to be allowed, because i think it would create a better atomosphere, but i cant see it being allowed :(

People say they used to like it at Filbert Street when we sung a song for each player just before kick off. So did I but those songs weren't very imaginative. 'England's number one', 'Gerry', 'Matty, Matty Elliott' and 'Super Franky Sinclair' so why can't we just do the same for our current crop?

Rab Douglas- Scotland’s, number one. Scotland’s, Scotland’s number one.

Jordan Stewart- One Jordan Stewart. There’s only one Jordan Stewart.

Rich Stearman- Super, super Rich. Super, super Rich. Super, super Rich. Super Richard Stearman.

Dion Dublin- Dion, Dion, Dion,

Paddy McCarthy- Paddy, Paddy, Paddy.

Alan Maybury- Que sera, sera. Whatever will be will be. We’ve got Alan Maybury. Que sera, sera.

Patrick Kisnorbo- Patrick Kisnorbo *CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP* (We are the Champions)

Gareth Williams- Gareth Williams is our friend…..

Stephen Hughes- Hughesy, Hughesy, Hughesy.

David Connolly- (Here we go) Connolly, Connolly, Connolly.

Mark de Vries- (Name repeated in a Samassi Abou style)

These are just a few examples. I'm not saying they're the best they're just examples of simple tunes being used for player songs. The songs the trust came up with were all well and good but you're not going to get 30,000 Leicester fans singing 'So here's to you, David Connolly'. When coming up with songs just keep them simple and then they're more memorable.

One of the reasons I've always said that the atmosphere is dwindling is the lack of relationship between the players and fans. The revolving door has been so incessant over the last few years that few players have been around long enough. We also lack the type of working class player to whom fans can relate to i.e Walshy, Ian Marshall, Clarridge or few Leicester born players i.e Bruno. Over last few years there has also been what seems to be a lack of effort/desire from the team and this never helps to make fans want to chant the players names. The good thing is I can see all of the above changing. With the likes of Hughes, Paddy and Stearman we have the hard working long termers to really get behind and relate to. I believe that under a more settled hardworking team the atmosphere will improve. I also feel performances and results will also improve under Levein and nothing helps improve the atmosphere more than winning games with good football.

After 3 seasons of feeling stupid for singing in the Kop, me and my group of mates have moved to L1 for next season. May be a bad move but can always go back to the Kop if we dont like it. Apart from 10 mins against wolves the kop was pathetic last season. Tried many times to get a constant, but more slow paced, craig leveins blue n white army going but majority of time only 5 or 6 joined in. Cant remeber a single time that I have heard a passionate 'when your'e smiling sung in this new ground'

Anyone else moved from kop to L1 for next season?

They used to do that at Lincoln City, they had three drummers and a couple of trumpet guys (my mate being one of them), it used to work well good until they changed where the away fans went and all the singers moved behind the goal but the band didn't and then it wasn't so good.

So the drumming idea could work, but you still need the vocal backup for it to work or else it goes a bit tits up.

Good post Foxes1884. Welcome to the board. I agree with you when you say that the fans have to relate to the players but I also think over the last few season people have tried to come up with long songs for players. They hardly ever catch on because they're too long winded. Short snappy songs are the kind of songs that people will join in with because they're easy to remember.

I think I could see you from the other end clapping along with your mates but no-one joining in. I used to look for the best area of the Kop to move to and even though the F area looked like it was producing the most noise, I've moved to E1 because that's where my mates sit. On the topic of when you're smiling, I've been going down to watch City regularly since I was 10. I'm now 15 and I still don't know the words to it properly. When it's sung I struggle to catch the words and sing along so I dread to think what people that haven't been to many games before manage to hear. Since moving to Filbert Way we've attracted a lot of new fans that never went to Filbert Street so I think that's why it's not been sung very loudly since we moved. I don't think they're sure of the words.

Birch should be on the pitch 10 minutes before the game rallying us all.... EVERYTIME we play getting us hungry for a win.
