MC Prussian Posted 28 January 2011 Posted 28 January 2011 I've mentioned the possibility of studying in the UK a couple of times in the past. The possibilities within the UK (and England for that matter) are so much better than in my own country, almost limitless. But facing the sheer choice, some institutions claiming a "satisfaction guarantee" (like the London Academy of Media, Film & TV) and others being absolutely unbeknownst to me, I have to go with word of mouth/personal recommendations. Thanks to its reputation, the NFTS in Beaconsfield has popped up a few times and I've seen York, Leeds Met, Bournemouth as well as Westminster offer hands-on film courses, too. I'm either looking at an MA or a top-up kind of 1-year advanced course. Only downside to most private institutions is the £££ involved for funding. For instance, the London Film Academy charges you £18'500 for a one-year diploma course - additional costs not included! Two years studies at the London Film School or one year at the Met in London alone add up to £15'000 each - the one-year practical filmmaking part at the Met is even close to £20'000! Then there's Futureworks in Manchester (which I find appealing), Raindance with their short courses/labs, Ravensbourne in London. I'd appreciate any help from people who have been there before, people who are currently in Media/Film or the ones working in the industry and/or know people who're "doing" it.
hebangsthedrums Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 I read 'Rebel Without A Crew' by Robert Rodriguez a few weeks ago, as I've always had a passing interest in film making. I would give that a read before committing to film school.
Alexikokopops Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 Are there any opportunities for funding? I managed to get funding for my masters, it's the only way I could have afforded it
