sphericalfox Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 I read the Mercury bit too.. hopefully other teams don't pick up on it. Btw, it's pretty easy to repeatedly pump balls into the box and wait for Ricardo to cock up than it is to keep hitting perfect long range shots and wait for a potential Weale mishap. Weale isn't exactly a brick wall when it comes to crosses, corners or free kicks just outside the box, and and as it's been pointed out long range shots. I guess it could be said that he has serious positional problems, and doesn't command the defense with any real communication, therefore he's on his own. I think whichever will be in goal the opposition will be attempting the same tactic and have been over the season before Ricardo. Hence the numerous amount of sheets which are not clean. Weale is no saint in goal. Sven wants a bit more experience and good distribution. This equals a ride on the bench bus for Weale.

Strange that the "perfect long range shots", resulting in Weale conceding, happen a lot more than goals concede because a Ricardo "cock up"!???

Not if you look at how many more games Weale has played. Ricardo has been lucky that the previous flaps haven't led to goals.

My concern is that "fans" shouting for weale when Ricardo plays. It's a moral disaster and fans shouldn't do that against their own club... I don't care if the lot "speak out" on the net but when we're playing And the reason why Ricardo don't concede when flapping is the same as when Weale can handle long shots - Good defencive work by the players. But in my view the distribution by Ricardo is more valuable to the flow than Weales.

The exact same could be said for Weale. I almost have to look away when the opposition take a corner, as I have little confidence in his ability to gather and hold on to that crossed ball. I won't deny that Ricardo's punching is 'different' and difference to the norm makes him look insane in this practice, but in actuality this is the norm across Europe. If the punches led to goals then I'd be annoyed, but usually they are hit and they go pretty far away from goal. This argument is ridiculous. Weale is JUST as bad.

skinnydipper Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 What's the point of having a keeper with good distribution if the team doesn't then attack at pace. Not Ricardo's fault that many of the outfield players fail to do this but it does negate one of the big advantages of playing him. Then it comes down to simple goal prevention and Ricardo's inability to deal with anything in the air worries me more than Weale's problems with long shots.
