Babylon Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 I disagree, he is a god footballer He's ok, but comparing him to god is a bit of a stretch.
Iwan is a Welshman Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 He's quite a simple player to sum up. His goalscoring ratio is great but his immobility is frustrating. I've got my suspicions that he's not really 28 years old. He looks older and is less mobile than Sir Les when he was here and he was 39. I reckon he's mid-forties at least. Take that into account and really he deserves some credit. I'd certainly rather have him than Iain Hume. I don't think I'd want him as our main striker and build a team around him though. He's handy to have around. Providing he takes a substantial wage cut I'd like to see him around next year. 10 goals in 19 games is a great return.
smudgerfox Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 I tell you what, I'll do pre-season with the lads, get fit as **** and run my nuts off up top for us all season. I'll be lucky to get more than a couple of flukey goals all season but sod it I'll work hard That's Darius Vassell and I claim my £10
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 I don't understand why people are so confused by the Yakubu criticism. If somebody is blessed with such natural ability and is being paid a lot of money don't you think it's fair that he should work hard? Fans expect players to earn their money through hard work and I think that's fair. People keep mentioning Hume - no he was never and never will be a great goalscorer but he is held in high esteem because he worked hard. Why is that wrong? Forgive us football fans for applauding work ethic. How many times do you want to see a Yakubu performance like the one at Forest? If he's performing like that 50% of the time (which arguably has been he case) would you be happy with that? Again if people can't see that movement and running from the striker is important for the team then I'm afraid you just don't understand football. Good strikers create chances for themselves and others with their movement, and help the defence out when we are under pressure by showing a bit of determination and chasing balls down. Yes he scores goals but there's no denying that these criticisms are fair, because he could definitely be doing more on that side of things. And I think people are forgetting just how many chances he's had. He has not been lethal with every chance - he's scored a couple of crackers, a bunch of tap ins, but he's missed a lot of good chances as well. He's done the best of every striker we've used this season in terms of goals but that hardly makes him a world beater. Obviously he's not been completely crap but I think it's fair that there are split opinions about him. ANOTHER refreshing post... And again I agree with the whole lot. I like the balance. We need to keep the Yak, for his goals, but some of all his all round play is frustrating. His performance against Forest was very poor.

Think the relationship between you two could lead to the first ever Foxestalk Civil Partnership!

AdamN Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 It seems you're trying to say that being lazy helps you to become a good goalscorer... Without wanting to speak for him, I don't think that's what he's trying to say. Intelligence is key to being a good goalscorer. I'm not talking about getting straight As in your GCSEs, but having the ability to read the game and to know where to be in order to maximise your scoring opportunities. Just watch players like Darren Bent, who is basically a serial poacher. Their movement in the box is excellent - which means that a lot of the time they're ready to latch onto the end of anything that's played in to them. He doesn't have to tear about the pitch for 90 minutes in order to get that done. Sure, players with the ability to do both are great, but then that's why they're playing at the top of the Premier League (think Tevez, Rooney, etc).

I understand that, but I don't see that as being relevant to Hume or Yakubu. Yakubu has goalscoring instincts, but is lazy. Hume works hard, but isn't a goalscorer. I don't think Hume isn't a goalscorer because he works too hard or runs too much. Like I said there's a difference between laziness and intelligence.
