Stopping smoking

Anyone manage to kick the habit recentley? Which method did you use?

I've got those capsules that you inhale with the plastic fag.

Minging!

I tried on of those fake fags earlier, that when you take a puff you inhale water vapour. they seem very realistic but expensive.

Any tips? I'm going to avoid drinking for a few weekends as I love a fag and a pint!

I'm not a heavy smoker- 10 a day unless i'm drinking all day, then its easily 20+ So I'm sticking 3quid a day in a jar to show how much i'm saving!

I quit at the end of January. I literally just had a last cigarette and that was it. No pills, gum, patches or anything like that. I quite cold turkey with no help.

When i'm hungover and can't be arsed i'll sometimes not bother all day. Its just times like getting into the van in the morning- light up. I'm always smoking when driving. Its kicking that side of the habit as much as owt else

I've got an electronic fag...... doesnt help me quit though, as you are still smoking it at home etc... and i'm not gonna smoke it down the pub when everyone else is smoking!

I quit last October. Just suddenly stopped liking the taste and smell. Really weird.

Was at a house party and put it out mid-fag, gave my packet to a mate and not touched one since.

its alot about association like you say. The ROUTINE of smoking. i tried and failed at the beginning of the year. I think you have to be ready to stop though. you have to.really WANT to stop. if you are.stopping because.you think you should or somebody else thinks you should then it wont work IMO.

Anyway, guy at work has been off them for around 3 weeks now. He went to the docs and got some champix(sp.)

good luck kiddo!

My dad who smoked CONSTANTLY from when he was about 13 up until about 45 stopped smoking pretty easy. He went to the doctors and got some pills they prescribe and he said it worked really well. Obviously you need some will power but he said it stopped the craving quite a lot. He also doesn't drink a lot which I find if your a smoker, if you drink it encourages you to smoke more due to smoking areas and being dumb/drunk

That's what I did, many years ago. If anyone really want's to stop smoking, they can do it. A little thing called will power, is all it takes.

I agree. It's very easy to get into a routine as well. Always used to have one when i had a coffee and HAD to have one after food, those were the toughest moments after i quit, but it gets easier and easier. Eventually the smell of it on my clothes from being around friends that smoke was enough to make me want to retch. It really is amazing though when you aren't a smoker, just how much you really can smell it on other people.

Apparently theres a chemical in them that stops you smelling it on yourself!

A couple of blokes I work with who were heavy smokers did some sort of Ionic Cleanse thing? I think it cost around £250 but it worked after the first session, and now both are non-smokers.

Firstly, well done for quitting stu.

However I can't understand why people do it in the first place. My school did so much to scare me shitless and it worked. After being shown the smokers blackened lungs and the like I avoid anyone who is smoking, let alone smoke myself.

To be honest, I think they should ban em altogether!

I'll no doubt have a couple if I have a drink at the weekend. Nowt like a fag and a pint!

To fit it. Pretty much as simple as that with me and 90% of my friends.

For some reason it's enjoyable as well :S Pint and a Fag was one of the best things ever when I smoked.
