Sven-Goran Eriksson has told Steve Howard he still has a future at Leicester City.

Howard scored all four goals as City rounded off their pre-season tour of Sweden with a 4-1 win over Vasalunds in Stockholm last night.

The City manager said Howard would play a part for City this season if he continued his impressive form.

City are in the hunt for a new striker, with Bristol City's Nicky Maynard top of their list, but Eriksson said Howard was showing the right attitude.

"Howard played very well in the second half and had good support from the others," he said.

"If he scores four goals every game, he can go on playing, no problem.

"The team should be stronger this season than last season and the competition is very hard.

"But the ideal thing is we have two players for every position and then it is up to the players.

"He just does need to go on as he does now. He has done a very good pre-season, working very hard, and he is in good shape."

New signings David Nugent (ankle), Sean St Ledger (hamstring) and Matt Mills (toe) all missed the game through injury.

But Eriksson said they were not serious injuries.

He has been encouraged by the fitness of Aleksandar Tunchev and Michael Ball, who are both trying to earn a contract by proving their fitness after long-term injuries.

Eriksson added: "St Ledger and Nugent are both injured but, hopefully, St Ledger will play in the first game in Austria (tomorrow against Bursaspor).

"David may play in the second game in Austria (on Saturday against Valencia).

"Mills will be ready for the next game.

"Tunchev played the second half and did very well and you can see he is a clever footballer and very experienced.

"He isn't the quickest but he is a clever player and always takes up the right positions."

Eriksson added: "No doubt if Michael Ball goes on like this without injures, I am sure we will offer him a contract.

"Not only is he a good player, he is experienced and he is good for the dressing room. So hopefully he will stay fit."

Overall, Eriksson said the Swedish trip had been a resounding success.

"It has been very good," he said.

"We have had three games of different quality.

"The pitches have been good and people have taken care of us very well.

"The weather is good for football as well."

Alot of the new signings with niggles! hope they shake them off. Does anyone know the extent of Mills toe damage? looked dislocated from the pics on twitter but no confirmation on what it actually was yet?

If you watch the video interview Sven say's "Howard is in very good shape for a man of his size....its strange " lol

I think Mills confirmed on Twitter that his toe was dislocated.... and that the pic was taken when it first happened.. weeks ago.

Sven seems confident he's ready for the next match :)

He's the 184 goal a season striker we are looking for.
