Mills Nearing Full Speed

Foxes defender Matt Mills admits he is still has plenty of work to do after missing the start of City's pre-season campaign.

But the former Reading centre-back reckons the whole squad will be raring to go come the opening day of the season, as Sven-Goran Eriksson's men kick off a huge campaign away at Coventry City.

Having missed the Sweden leg of City's pre-season trip due to a toe injury, Mills made his first Foxes appearance in Wednesday night's draw with Bursaspor in Austria, looking every inch the dominant defender

The Rothley-born 25-year-old will hope to continue his build-up to full fitness in St Veit on Saturday against Spanish giants Valencia - City's final opponents of their two-week tour.

Mills told Foxes Player: "I'd only trained for couple of days (prior to Bursaspor) so I know there are things I will only be able to do when fully-fit. Your mind is already thinking things the legs perhaps need to catch up on, but I'm getting up to full speed.

"We've been doing double sessions most days to try to get the fitness under our belts, but it can be difficult with the pitches out here - you can't do as much turning as you would like to because the surfaces are so firm.

"But Chris Short, our fitness coach, has been spot-on with all the training and preparation so, come the opening day of the season, I'm sure everyone will be ready."

The game against Champions League-bound Valencia should be an interesting test for Eriksson's men and something of a preview to next Saturday's npower Challenge Cup at King Power Stadium, where City will face further Spanish opposition in the shape of Real Madrid.

Valencia will surely be the Foxes' toughest examination of pre-season so far and Mills says there is plenty the players can learn from the fixture.

"It's hard to tell what kind of game to expect when you're playing against foreign opposition, but you know they're going to move the ball well," he said.

"It may be different to the Championship, but that should pose us different problems and they're all things we need to adapt to.

"We're going into a long season against all different kinds of teams, so we have to learn to contend with that."

Saturday's game against Valencia in St Veit kicks off at 5.30pm UK time, with Foxes Player providing live match commentary from the Jacques-Lemans Arena.

easy tiger!

The way it works around here is that info from the official site, Leicester Mercury website or any national or online news site, Twitter and any other 'decent' source is posted in here to that foxestalk can be the one stop place for all things Leicester City.... that way people can just come in here and read everything they want to without trawling through everything.

Consider Foxestalk just a condensed version of the whole internet concerning all things City.
