PS3 Controllers on PC

I was wondering, i'm pretty sure i've heard it done before though.

Can you connect your PS3 controller using the PS3 USB cable to the PC and use it as a game controller?

Has anyone tried this?

I've connected my 360 controller before, don't see why a PS3 one wouldn't work.
