The Enigma of Leicester City

If yesterday's game was not quite a 'must win', then it was certainly a 'really need to win'.

We might have been holding our breath before the game, not daring to even contemplate the ramifications of yet another possible home defeat to 'table-topping' Brighton but when we heard the final whistle, we cheered and clapped whilst possibly feeling a little inwardly embarrassed at having doubted the outcome.

But there again, that is the enigma of Leicester City F.C.We can never be too sure just what to expect.

But yesterday, we showed signs of class and the team showed signs of that much vaunted word – 'gelling'.

Inspired by exceptional performances from Sol (they shalt not pass)Bamba; Gelson Fernandes, who ran his socks off ; Matt Mills, at last showing why we had paid £5 million for him;Darius Vassell, chasing and foraging like a dog biting at the heels of the Brighton defence; Lee Peltier, providing us with yet more reasons why we don't really need to rue the day that Kyle Naughton returned to Spurs; KasperSchmeichel, looking more and more like the best keeper we have had since thedays of Peter Shilton and Gordon Banks; Yuki Abe, not only so assured and determined, but also scoring such a superb goal; and of course, Jermaine Beckford, who promises to be one of the most exciting players we have had leading the attack for years - so ably supported by competent, hard-working contributions from Paul Konchesky, Ritchie Wellens and Andy King. All in all, a joy to behold!

For once, we weren't playing a team in 'red' – Reading, Bristol City, Forest, Barnsley. Yesterday, the only opposition we faced in red was the referee.

As I left the ground, I gave thanks, not just for the win but also for the fact that we hadn't bought CraigMackail-Smith! And I was also left wondering just how Brighton had contrived to be at the top of the table.

But most of all, I felt that we are back on track. We've got some tough games ahead but we have the players, the manager and the fans to be successful.

We really have every justification to 'Keep The Faith' and enjoy the ride!

We have a tough few games coming up & I would like to think we can get something from these. Game by game the team seems to be improving & I would like to think that we could turn over either Cardiff, Middlesboro, or Birmingham........despite being away. In the middle of those we play Derby at home, but don't think we have too much to worry about there........another team punching well above their weight.

I go back to the days of Johnny Anderson and the spectacular Dave Maclaren. Leicester have always had really good keepers over the years but Gordon Banks and Peter Shilton were especially outstanding.. Kasey Keller was not far behind them in merit and Mark Wallington was one Club's best and most loyal servants ever. Ian Walker and Tim Flowers were indeed also classy keepers of international standard.

We have been most fortunate to have had such outstanding talent between the sticks but Kasper Schmeichel, in the short time he has been at the club, has already shown an exceptional degree of skill that has been at times, quite awesome.
