nuttytimmy Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 I've got a Worcester 24i Junior boiler in my flat, which has worked fine since we moved in last August, 2010. We've had our landlord round once to check it out as it began to make an annoying intermittant clicking sound, like the noise of the ignition, when it was switched on for central heating. Tonight that clicking has been joined by an odd buzzing noise - like the sound of a buzzer for getting into a flat I suppose - and I'm a little concerned about whether the boiler is safe or not. I'll stress again that the noises are intermittant, whilst each of the radiators heat up evenly and hot water pressure is good. The pressure gauge reads at just over 1 bar. Any advice or ideas as to what may be behind the odd noises?
The Year Of The Fox Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 When does the buzzing occur? If as you say the boiler lights either the heating or HW then it is igniting (obviously) Try to isolate when the noise occurs. Boiler pressure is irrelvant to this. Edit- I wouldn't call it dangerous, but I'd say it could be your gas valve or something wrong on the PCB, or even the thermocouple on its way out. Either way, get your landlord to sort someone out to come and have a look. Definitely sounds like a component inside the boiler, which you really need someone from Worcester to come and deal with. There aren't any faults flashing up on the screen? Usually begin with the letter F then a number?
Zingari Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 have you tried bleeding the radiators ? anymore than that and it's most probably the heat exchanger , fan , or pump , in which case you will need to call out a corgi engineer don't mess about with a boiler unless you know what your doing is my best advice , sorry

Could be the pump, but again, the radiators wouldn't get warm. The fan could be at fault, but the boiler wouldn't usually light up, though the fan could just be sticking.

But no, its deffo not a thing to try yourself (topping up your boiler pressure is simple) but anything inside the boiler as you say is a no no. Your landlord probably won't be in much of a hurry, afterall you still have CH and HW, but sods law is it will break down when it gets really cold!

What I said was thanks for the ideas, I think it could be related to the gas valve, which has been mentioned before. And don't worry, I'm not about to start fiddling around with the boiler's innards!

Zingari Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 There' only one kind of old boiler you know anything about i'm somewhat of expert on those edit ; lcfc stu , Sorry if my reply came across as sarcastic , it wasn’t meant to be
somebum Posted 19 November 2011 Posted 19 November 2011 My boiler regularly sounds as though it is about to blow up (no exaggeration) but I have had it serviced every year and everything is fine. That being said, do get it serviced for piece of mind.
