To have medical at Blackburn

Blackburn have jumped to the head of the queue for Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy, as the Welshman is due to head to Ewood Park for a medical.

The striker has no future under Graeme Souness at St James' Park, due to his public spat with the Scot, and was farmed out on loan to Celtic last term.

The Bhoys had first option on Bellamy, but failed to push through a deal and a whole host of other clubs expressed interest in the speedy striker.

Aston Villa, Birmingham and most recently Everton had entered the race for his signature, but it appears as if they could be beaten to the punch by Rovers.

Bellamy is due to be in Lancashire on Thursday and will undergo a medical prior to holding contract talks with Mark Hughes.

"Right now, Craig is talking to Blackburn and undergoing a medical," Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd told the club's website.

Hughes and Bellamy formed a bond during the Rovers chief's time as manager of Wales and the move would clearly appeal to all parties.

Hughes has made bringing in a striker his main priority this summer and the capture of Bellamy will be a major fillip to the Lancashire side.

Should Bellamy move on from Newcastle, The Magpies will be left with just Alan Shearer and Michael Chopra as fit striking options.

They have a good player and i reckon Bellamy has respect for Hughes so there wont be much trouble with his attitude.

Not sure if Blackburn is a good move for him though. Doubt he will get much succes there.

And Bellamy would add to it. I heard that he played mozart before a match and did some knitting at half time. then went and played croquet for his warm down. :ermm:

:P

Maybe not hey!
