Rincewind Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 I wonder what his response would have been if the place mentioned was Leicester? Would he defend the people of Leicester? Personally I would have been pleased for it to get a mention. I wonder if he was being entirely serious? I would love to see him on the next show as a guest. I'm sure the matter will crop up in a future programme. He has opened the door for Truro to satirized even more. And when he said children would be upset what age was he talking about? It is an adult programme normally on after the watershed so any child likely to be upset would be in bed. Teenagers would not care about the jokes and more likely to be repeating them. At the end of the day HIGNFY is a satirical programme which purpose is to take the piss out of people in the news. MP's and celebrities on the whole accept they will be 'featured' if they make a gaff. Why do people like Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson to name two keep coming back on the show as guests? They give as good as they get but will never have the wit and the skills of the quick response of Paul Merton and Co.
BoneDog Posted 31 May 2012 Posted 31 May 2012 Do you not think that might be one of the main reasons they're in this mess to start with? I'm pretty sure they got mainly done over by the bankers, the EU, the IMF and governments etc. like the rest. Although I don't really know much about it, I'd say that the people are not the main cause of a countries financial woes. Edit : The Cornwall joke and response - that's the first time I've ever heard that the Cornish are discriminated against!

The EU should never have let them join the Euro in the first place and everybody knew that at the time but the population voted for parties who promised to get them into the Euro. They voted for more and more public spending and there is a culture of tax avoidance, not just amongst the rich but everyone across Greece. You do the maths. It's no good living on borrowed money and then blaming the bankers for lending it you.
