Typical of the right wing that has instilled in some people that all those on benefits are lazy incompetents.

Has it been instilled by the right wing though? You don't think that people who live amongst these people are capable of making up their own mind?

I'm not saying everyone on the dole is lazy btw just that not everything is a political conspiracy by the evil right or the loony left.

Never done Classical history then?

http://en.wikipedia..../Ottoman_Greece

Just to put you straight, ancient, middle age and contemporary history don't really mix because what is now considered as 'Countries' with legal borders recognised by the UN were not exactly in existence in the 15th century.

However in 3000 BC Greeks were prospering on their beautiful lands, and have seen Romans, Ottomans and many other invaders come and go with their tails between their legs, so I don't understand your point.

The number of lazy incompetent benefit cheats is probably insignificant in terms of cash compared to tax cheats.

Behave.

If that were anywhere near the case this country would have shut down long before now.

I'm not even sure it's worth chasing tax cheats now as the money claimed back would probably be used to create an even bigger welfare state and create more of a mess in the future.

It was just in response to the moose and his left wing generalisation, as far as I'm concerned there is good and bad in both ends of the spectrum, which I also put in my post.

It's about as relevant as your comment for a down on its knees Ireland to rejoin the UK. That's my point.

There is no comparison.

We are a close knit group of islands that are culturally and physically linked.

We speak the same language, have many of the same cultural and religious similarities.

We are stronger in the global economic climate and alone we are too small to compete effectively.

Suggesting that a Christian Orthodox nation should allow a muslim super power country of contrasting language and cultural background to re invade is just idiotic.

Where'd I say that? Please use the quote function if you must! surely Turkey and Greece could economically join together. Why both of them share Crete culturally and traditionally!

Why would the country have shut down, both sums are fairly insignificant in the overall picture.

Admittedly from the Mirror but quotes the National Fraud Authority (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/agencies-public-bodies/nfa/)

You might think benefit cheats are the biggest bunch of swindlers in this country.

But the latest figures show tax fraudsters cost us all far more, 15 times more to be precise.

Half of all the £30billion fraud that took place in the UK last year, according to the National Fraud Authority, was tax fraud. That's around 3% of tax revenue going missing.

Moose isn't the only one making generalisations. Not all board members are lazy useless sons of lords.

Most of that in my opinion would be ordinary working class blokes working for cash.

Phew! I thought this was another thread about feckin poetry.

Poverty can be defined as when the cost of beer and fags is so high that I have to make the painful decision that the kids will have to go without food and clothes.

Opinions don't make it so, I don't know as I said my comments were in response to Moose who I believe introduce the subject of benefit cheats into the discussion and then Matt who suggested I had made it up.

None of this has any real relevance to the initial subject so I'm bowing out.

Didn't say you made it up, I said the country would shut down were that the case, which I admit was a big exaggeration.
