Corky Posted 3 October 2012 Posted 3 October 2012 Kevin Pietersen is back in the England cricket fold, with differences sorted out after the issues in August. http://www1.skysports.com/cricket/news/12341/8135413/Kevin-Pietersen-is-to-return-to-the-England-fold-after-reaching-an-agreement-with-the-ECB Thoughts? I think it's the right move, he's a divisive character but his talent is too good to cast aside permanently.
Mack Posted 3 October 2012 Posted 3 October 2012 I'd rather see an Englishman getting out for nothing than a South African in the England team scoring bags of runs.
Corky Posted 3 October 2012 Author Posted 3 October 2012 I'd rather see an Englishman getting out for nothing than a South African in the England team scoring bags of runs. Ravi Bopara played that role while KP was not selected.
Guest MattP Posted 3 October 2012 Posted 3 October 2012 I'd rather see an Englishman getting out for nothing than a South African in the England team scoring bags of runs. Kevin Pietersen is perfectly entitled to play for England, he has English blood from his mother and had I been treated the same by a racist system in South Africa like he was I would have moved. Great to hear it's all been sorted out, We can start thinking about a team for India now. Cook Trott Bell Pietersen Bairstow Morgan Prior Broad Swann Anderson Finn Looking pretty damn strong again.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 3 October 2012 Posted 3 October 2012 Sounds like he has been a right arrogant pillock but the bottom line is that England needs him. He is the best we have got in probably all forms of cricket. He is certainly a match winner which is what was lacking at the 20/20 in Sri Lanka,

Had he hung around I think we all know he would have wound up playing for South Africa. It was, and still is, a financial decision. I am delighted the ECB are making it harder for the likes of him and Trott to play for England. I hope it is banned altogether eventually.

How are the ECB making it harder for people like him?, he qualifies through parentage, I fully agree on Trott though and anyone else qualifying through "residency". If you think Pietersen's decision to play for England revolved around money you don't know too much about the guy, he was invited by Clive Rice, and he fell in love with the place while he was over here. I knew I was going to cop a lot of stick but it will be like water off a duck's back...I expected stick at the start of the innings, and I'm sure it will carry on through the whole series. But I just sat back and laughed at the opposition, with their swearing and 'traitor' remarks... some of them can hardly speak English. My affiliation is with England. In fact, I'm starting to speak too much like Goughie, In fact, I'm going to get one of Gough's tattoos with three lions and my number underneath...No one can say I'm not English.

Well I know with the journo who used to ghost write his sun column so I know a bit. Firstly KP had to qualify for England like any other foreigner... by playing here for 4 years. So you are wrong there. Secondly, the ECB are increasing the qualifying period in length to put the likes of Pietersen and Trott.. Bedwetter etc off from coming over here in future. You know, during the times that South Africa etc were banned from International cricket whilst I did'nt agree with it I could understand why players were coming over here to play for England to an extent. But in today's climate, not only is there no need as they have their own national team to play for, but indeed there is a torrent of them coming over here because they have seen how rich Pietersen Trott etc have become from it. The quota bollock they use as an excuse is just that, bollocks. If you are good enough you play for South Africa, just look at their team at the moment, it's hardly full of Black players. What the likes of Trott KP etc do is wrong and it stinks, and there are more all the time like Durnbach who is playing for England with an Italian passport whilst being born in South Africa, and it devalues our National side. In fact it's not a National side, but it's fast becoming an elite group of International players who are only in it for the dosh.
Corky Posted 3 October 2012 Author Posted 3 October 2012 Pietersen took a huge risk waiting to qualify for England, possibly leaving no international circket with either South Africa or England. I admired his willingness to play for England.
Guest MattP Posted 3 October 2012 Posted 3 October 2012 He played for three years here before qualifying but in terms of rules he had nothing stopping him from representing England from day one had they really wanted to select him. Pietersen was actually dropped from the Zulu Natal side because of the quota system, that's not even up for debate. If you a young cricketer dropped because of the colour of your skin can you seriously be expecting to hang around. Hardly full of blacks? Maybe not, but's it certainly led to people getting caps who shouldn't, Amla, Duminy, Prince and Petersen have all held down regular spots, apart from probably Amla not one of them would keep KP out the side, the quota system has probably held them back incredibly over the last ten years. Imagine a top 6 of. Smith Trott Amla Kallis Pietersen De Villiers. Think "unbeatable" about covers that when added to their bowlers. Not even going to go into caps given to Thami Tsolekile and Farhaan Behardien. Feel for the guy, he gets accused of wanting to play for England for cash, wanting not to play for England because of cash, engineering a way out to make more IPL cash, then clamouring back for more cash.

KP was dropped once and because he is such an ego crazed know it all took his arse in his hand and accused them of doing it because the player they selected was black. He never hung around to see what would have panned out. Are you trying to tell me if he had started scoring bucket loads of runs in South African cricket the national side would have ignored him? The SA team is number 1 in the World, it's hardly been held back in any way. He had to qualify, there was no debate about that, he was treated as a foreigner. Whether some got caps that shouldn't have is a debatable subject based on opinion rather than facts. I think you are wrong if you suggest Pietersen would have been ignored despite his ability because of his skin colour. The bloke is here for the money only, and even tried to stick two fingers up at England in favour of lucrative IPL contracts and went way over the line in his usual arrogant manner before the ECB cut him down to size. Sadly they have not learnt their lesson and I'd imagine it wont be too long before he starts pissing people off again, he's the type of bloke that could get the pope swearing at him.
Guest MattP Posted 3 October 2012 Posted 3 October 2012 How was he going to start scoring bucketloads of runs when he was dropped out of List A cricket? South African team hasn't been held back? WTF? The talent they have produced and since 2001 they have spent a mere 4 months at the top of World Cricket? Not to mention how many World Cup's they have thrown away in the last 15 years. I can't believe any England fan wouldn't want him in the side (your the first one I've met to be fair) had the pleasure of watching him make test winning knocks in Birmingham, Colombo and Sydney in the last 18 months, he's an absolute pleasure to watch, never have we had a batsman like it who can not only bat for huge scores but so quickly as well it gives your bowlers so much more time to work with.

It's simple, he's not English! And nor is Trott, Bedwetter Jade or whatever his name is and the rest. I would'nt want South Africans in the England Football team and I don't want and England cricket team full of them either. On the KP front he's also a massive **** to boot. I'd have booted him our for life after what he did. I suppose the question is do you want a team that's better full of foreigners or do you want a team of Englishmen. I know what I'd like.

Agree on Dernback, Kieswetter and Trott. Ideal world we don't play them. No problem with KP, English blood by parentage, can't believe anybody would deny someone a chance to play who is half English. As someone who follows the team around the World if push came to shove I'd take a side of 9 Englishmen and 2 South Africans being number 1 in the World over 11 Englishmen being battered by Australia again. Not even a contest. "Full of Foreigners" - outrageous exaggeration and quite insulting to Cook, Bell, Prior, Finn, Bresnan, Broad, Swann, Anderson, Bairstow, Collingwood, Taylor, Wright, Patel, Woakes Tremlett and Onion's achievements over the last few years.

Our Test side is virtually all-English, we only had Trott who had no connection to England in the last Test. We have fantastic English players supplemented by one or two foreign-born (but not necessarily totally foreign) players. I'm sorry but I'd rather have Pietersen in this side.

Matt Prior was born in South Africa and did'nt move here until he was 11 either, although at least that is half plausible. As for KP, we wont agree. I was even told the **** had plans at one point a couple of years back to ditch cricket all together in favour of a move to Major League Baseball. The bloke only cares for himself and his bank balance. I'd much rather he buggered off and never came back.

I can't believe you don't think people should be allowed to represent their parents nations of birth, amazed.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 I would be intresting to see how the players react to his return.
Mack Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 I would be intresting to see how the players react to his return. Mass conga as far away from him as possible I'd guess. As the the MLB rumour, it was true.

Guest MattP Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Mass conga as far away from him as possible I'd guess. As the the MLB rumour, it was true. I've never heard it and I've travelled across the world with England fans and heard some very interesting stories about some players, ridiculous to suggest a cricketer could walk into an MLB team, a reason they are among the highest paid sportsmen on the planet. They've not exactly been angels in all this. Certainly, clear indication Broad was involved with Richard Bailey on that Twitter account.

A strong side Matt. However, I think we will play two spinners in India so probably Patel for Finn. I would also open with Cook and Bell and keep Trott at 3. Just my opinion. Either way, I doubt we will get anything from the India series....
