Cardiff Half Marathon & raising money for 'Mind' - the mental health charity

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

As I mentioned in the 'Running and stuff' thread, I'm running the Cardiff Half Marathon next month (6th October), aiming to raise money for the mental health charity, Mind.

It's my first time doing something like this, so 13.1 miles should be challenging but also achievable!

I know people have made threads on here before when raising money for their chosen charities and the response has been very good, so I'm hoping for the same.

You can donate to Mind here and help me reach my target for raising money for the event: http://www.justgiving.com/ashley-jupp :)

Or you can text 'XHOW77' and an amount e.g. '£1', £5', or '£10' to 70070.

I appreciate in advance anything you decide to give!

Manhugs,

Asha x

Good luck, Ashley. I used to volunteer for MIND at Bedford Hospital so I know how much it can mean to you to do something like this!

Have just donated and let us know how you get on :).

Big thank you, Stan :) Top man!

I'll keep everyone posted. It's definitely a great cause, what kind of work did your volunteering involve?

It was weekly on Wednesday evenings and it was simply just helping out patients who have long- or short-term illnesses enjoy their time at the hospital better. Could have simply been just to chat to them, or even playing games like table-tennis, dominoes, chess, cards with them. They enjoyed it and it seemed like they enjoyed the fact that someone was there for them and they loved the time and company. It was really rewarding.

Fantastic stuff man, it's so great to know that you can make such a difference in such a simple way. How did you get involved with it?

Thanks for the donations so far guys! I'm now at £86 which is 43% of the way towards my target, with three weeks today until the event. Exciting stuff!

Definitely. It's a bit of a cliche phrase, but sometimes something little can make a huge difference. I'm really in to studying Psychology so getting some work experience was not only beneficial for the people I helped out, but it was good to show some voluntary experience on my CV. I found out through a person who works at the NHS about these weekly evening sessions and just asked if I could join in as well and they were happy to take me on.

Just 11 days now until the Cardiff HM, anyone else willing to sponsor me by giving money to Mind?

The link is in the post at the top, so this post is effectively a glorified 'bump' :P

I'm 75% of the way to my initial target, and if anyone reading this can give anything - even £1, £2, £5... I would really appreciate it! :)
