Jordan Posted 9 October 2013 Author Posted 9 October 2013 So, let's just say the Alain Vigneault era in New York has gotten off to a bumpy start. Off to see Kings v Rangers in LA next week (provided air travel is still considered essential to the US government) First ever game I'll get to see live That one worked out well for us Meanwhile, the next night, the Rangers give up 9 goals at San Jose, including this one to 19-year-old rookie Tomas Hertl--his FOURTH of the night: http://youtu.be/c-7NgESsc5Y
Uncle Phil Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Must say I was very surprised by the score line last night. What's going on there? Just a one off score line or is there something going on at the rangers? I know there's a new coach, new captain also? Far from ideal start for the devils as well.

Just a one off score line or is there something going on at the rangers? I know there's a new coach, new captain also? Far from ideal start for the devils as well. Callahan is still the captain, but he was injured for most of training camp and only made his return at LA.I think part of it is players still adjusting to AV's system--the Rangers have been a very solid team defensively over the past few years and have the same personnel as last season on D and in goal, but they've been leaving the front of the goal wide open all preseason and now so far this regular season, too. Also, due to renovations at MSG, the Rangers have been forced to travel west and play the first 9 games on the road. Last night was the 2nd of back-to-back games, and I thought the Rangers skated superbly at LA so I think they were also just exhausted last night. And yes, the Devils look awful, and if this keeps up I don't think it would be a surprise to see de Boer be the next coach to get fired. Kovalchuk dropped a bomb on them this summer, but the Devils also made some questionable moves this offseason. Yes, getting Cory Schneider will benefit the team, but signing Ryane Clowe to a 5-year deal at almost $5m per season is madness Clowe's stock is clearly on the decline. The Devils were desperate to get bigger and tougher, but at what expense? I hate to second-guess Devils' GM and evil genius, Lou Lamoriello, one of the smartest minds in hockey... But if this team isn't good enough--and I don't think they are--it will be head coach de Boer taking the fall, not Lou.
